Library, Tuesday, April 4

Angela is behind the desk of the library at the usual time.

Her eyes might still be a little red. Darn hay fever.

Come in, browse, look for books. It's what the library's there for, and distraction is probably a good thing for Angela.

She's scribbling something in a notebook. It's probably a poem, of the emo teen genre.

After stopping by the gym, Parker wandered into the library, and smiled when she saw Angela. "You're back! How's your grandfather?"

"I am," Angela said, without enthusiasm. "He's okay. They transferred him from intensive care to a rehab unit."

"I'm glad he's going to be all right." Parker cocked her head at Angela, considering her, then said, "Are you okay? And do you have any plans for this weekend?"

"Not really okay, no. I haven't even thought about the weekend." Angela squinted at Parker, wondering if maybe she hadn't heard about Marty yet. "I'm not sure I'm up for anything much."

"Do you think Marty would like to go along, if I invited you guys to Blue Cove this weekend?" Parker raised an eyebrow back at her. "Where is he, anyway? He missed out on prime snarking opportunities on Jaye in ACJ this morning."

Parker blinked. "Gone? Gone where? When the hell did this happen? I leave for one weekend and I miss everything!"

"Can you please just ... not be that way?" Angela said, wearily. "I don't know when, exactly. This weekend sometime. He said somebody from his old job got in touch with him and wanted him to -- you know. Veronica Mars and Nadia Santos."

She swallowed. "He managed to fake their deaths, somehow --- I couldn't follow that part -- but he had to leave town to take care of his mom. He came to say goodbye to me yesterday. He thinks he'll be back but he couldn't say when."

Blinking, Parker sat down, looking shocked. "God, I had no idea. I'm sorry." She shook her head. "He said something last week, about having nightmares about that in Detention. I never expected it would actually come true." Studying Angela, she said, "He'll be okay, you know."

She's back, and attempting to work. It's not going so well.

Somehow, Angela isn't hungry, but she closes the library so everyone else can eat in peace anyhow.

Rory came in, looking a bit shell-shocked.

When she spotted Angela, though, she gave a small smile. "Hey! How are things at home? Is everything all right?"

"Hi," Angela said, falt. "Home is home. They moved Grandpa to a rehab unit, Sunday."

She looked hopefully at Rory. "Hey, you know when -- someone who's back now -- went away?"

"That sounds promising," Rory offered, sitting.

She paled a little at the mention of Anakin, but nodded. "Yeah?"

Angela rubbed her eyes. "How did you get through it? I mean, just the -- every day, not knowing where he was or when he would be back, or even if he would be back."

"It's kind of killing me."

[*pets it* Paul, the most awesome roommate evar who isn't even on LJ, made it. Oh, and I'm heading to class and will be AFK for about half an hour. *waves*]

Angela rubbed her eyes, nodding, looking miserable. "Uh-huh. I kind of figured it would be all over school by now, but I guess not."

"I couldn't really follow the whole thing, but he said someone wanted to hire him to -- you know -- Nadia and Veronica. He faked that, but he had to leave to cover his tracks and check on some people back home. He came to say goodbye to me yesterday. He wasn't sure when he'd be back at school. I keep obsessing that he'll never come back at all."

She played with a piece of hair. "So ... I don't know. Somehow I thought you would understand."

"Oh, Ange," Rory said after a moment, leaning over to hug her friend. "I do, yeah. I really, really do. He'll come back, though. You have to keep believing that, because when you start losing that hope? That just makes it so much harder. And you'll just feel silly when he does come back."

Angela hugged Rory tightly. "So I just need to believe I'll see him soon, and just go with that?" she said.

Her voice suggested this was a feat on the order of running a marathon backwards, uphill, through a blizzard.

Then she sniffled. "I feel guilty. At least I got to say goodbye. You didn't, with your guy."

Closing time: At last, chores that don't require much thought. Angela gets the counter and tables very tidy indeed.
