If you were looking closely, you'd notice some orange blood on the edges of Anakin's robes today.

"Today we're going to talk about the ethics of violence," he said. "In related news, if you are very much against violence...avoid town today. The clowns are back and are extremely aggressive." He began walking around the classroom as he continued speaking. "There's a variety of positions to take regarding violence: you can object to it in all forms, you can decide to hit people who hit you first, you can support the government's use of violence against aggressors without wanting to be specifically a part of it yourself...you could be an angry clown in town and decide that everyone's hearts belong to you."

He shrugged. "Personally, I don't agree with that last one, but as always, this class is about finding out where your line is. Is it fine to shoot at a drive through window because they forgot your barbecue sauce? I think that's kind of insane, but you might disagree."

He clasped his hands together. "So. Violence. Where do you stand?"

Conscientious objector, murder clown or somewhere in between?

"I mean, I draw the line at murder clowns," Sabine said.

She had her helmet with her and orange on her that was definitely not paint, she was mostly cool with violence.

"Me too," Anakin said, wrinkling up his nose. "Running away is an option, of course, but not normally one I go with."

This was a student who was constantly being told in one of her other classes that murder was not actually an option, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that Tisarwat just sort of shook her head a little and shrugged. "It's all incredibly subjective. Sometimes, violence is the only choice you have, but I do believe you should at least explore other options before getting to that point."

Or, at the very least, ensuring you were the one with the bigger guns before pulling the trigger.

"How long do you give it before you reach for the weapons," Anakin asked, "and how do you judge when the people you're dealing with are operating in good faith?"

"...violence is necessary because other people will hurt you otherwise," Okuyasu said. "But you should probably try to go about it in ways that they can be your friend afterwards. Unless they're a serial killer."

There was a lot to unpack, there.

"And sometimes you gotta punch people because otherwise they'll walk all over you."

He had, after all, threatened to beat up a 13 year old over a lottery ticket. Admittedly a 13 year old who tried to murder him.

"Do you punch first, then?" Anakin asked, trying not to look too amused.

"Only if I know they're bad news," Okuyasu said. "Or... think they're bad news."

He looked a little sheepish. "Sometimes you might end up punching the wrong person but usually that just means you can be friends after."

Even if you, say, tried to decapitate them with a metal gate.

"Your home dimension must be a fascinating place," Anakin said with a little grin. "How many wrong people have you hit?"

"Well back when my bro was in charge we did a lot of bad stuff," Okuyasu said. "I totally tried to kill the two guys that are now my best friends! All they had to do was show me a better way about stuff."

Okuyasu nodded sagely, like that made everything he'd just said normal.

"Since then I've been pretty lucky. Don't think I've beaten up anyone innocent since!"

"Good job?"

Why did that sound like a question, Anakin?

"Thank you!" Okuyasu said, very proud of himself.

Nell shrugged. She didn't mean to come across as flip, but thinking about the time she'd killed a man by feeding him to her land always made her very uncomfortable. "I don't like the idea of violence, but sometimes you ain't got a choice. Iffen someone attacks you, I think you need to fight back."

She had.

Anakin nodded. "And what counts as an attack? Does it have to be physical?"

"Can't see me hurting somebody else, 'cause they called me a bad name," Nell said.

"I prefer insulting people until they cry or throw the first punch," Eleanor said from her chair. "Or if they're bigger than me? Just flat out running. And having someone around on your side who runs slower than me."

"Definitely avoid whatever's going on in town, then," Anakin said.

“Fork that shirt. I’m not going forking anywhere until this weird shirt is forking over with.”

"Violence is a tool," Lana said. "It's harder to recover from than some others if you're wrong, so it should probably not be a first resort, but there's no sense in pretending it isn't an option."

She did not have any orange on her. Mostly because lightsaber and lightning both cauterized.

Anakin nodded. "Should it be a final option or do you find it works well as an opening salvo as well, if you're using it as a tool?"

"I don't think I've ever used it as an opening salvo," Lana said. "Well, not with anything sentient. Shyracks and k'lor'slugs, I'm starting with the violence. With sentients it usually pays to talk first. Even if only so you get a better idea of what sort of violence to use."

"Oh, I'm a big fan of violence," Grog said brightly. "I think a lot of time people spend on fancy talking could just be settled with a fight, and whoever's stronger wins and gets what they want. Also, I'm not going to go near a clown if I don't have to, but if one comes at me I will punch it until it stops moving, because they're just not right."

He has tips on getting blood out of clothing. Just sayin'.

This was a question that normally Rey would text to Kanan, but she didn't want to worry him while things were happening, and she actually wanted to check in at the (thankfully clear) school anyway, she decided to pop in for a moment, knocking at the door.

She had her staff and there was definitely clown blood on her that she'd be cursing at later while doing laundry again.

"Hello there," Anakin said, glancing at the staff and then the blood. "The clowns are still out, I take it."

"I think it's going to be an ongoing thing today," Rey nodded, and asked, "Is it normal to feel like everything is screaming at you?"

She'd dealt with danger sense and having bad feelings about this in small doses. Not exactly in a prolonged "slow killer clowns that want your heart" kind of way.

"Oh, that's the Force giving you a bad feeling," Anakin said, nodding. "It's helpful in combat, less so living here. I basically spent my senior year with a low-level migraine."

"...Oh good I have that to look forward to," she said.

Ugh. Long daaaaaaaaaaay. And only 10:30.
