The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Definitely," Lana agreed. "I'll see you in self-defence, then. I'm taking that and the 'bad-ass bitch' class and 'knowing your terrain'." Plus some others. Because she was a nerd, but also liked to be well-prepared to defend herself.

"I was kind of tempted by terrain," Norman admitted. "I've been almost killed by a flying tree before, it might come in handy. But I'm not really bad-ass bitch material."

A beat.

"At all. So I figured I'd start with one class about not getting killed and go from there."

"That sounds reasonable," Lana agreed.

"...A flying tree?"

"There might've been an angry three-hundred-year-old ghost involved," Norman explained, wryly.

Lana winced. "Ghosts can be vindictive."

"Yeah, and this one had plenty of reason to be."

"Why?" Lana asked. "If you don't mind me asking, that is. Most angry Sith ghosts got betrayed and killed by rivals, but you don't strike me as the type to do that."

Norman shook his head a little.

"She was eleven when they hanged her," he said, quietly. "And my family was tasked with keeping her at rest."

... He'd kinda dropped the ball on that one. In fairness, his Great Uncle had been bad at... everything.

And then had died.

Lana nodded. Ancestral duty she understood. "It didn't last, I take it. But you survived."

"It didn't last past night one," Norman admitted. "Nobody told me what exactly I was supposed to do."

He shrugged a little.

"So... I talked to her, instead."

It worked out.

"Before or after she threw a tree at you?" Lana asked.

Look, it had been complicated.

"I talked her down, and then I listened to her for a while. It was nice. She was nice."

She had been like him.

Lana nodded and filed that away for reference. "That sounds more pleasant than Sith ghosts, but...well, most of them were older and meaner before they died."

"I've known older ghosts, but the meaner ones I've only really encountered recently."

This summer had been rife with them.

"In the end, she was just a scared kid. A lot like me, at that age. She wanted to sleep. She wanted her mommy."

"I'm glad you were able to help her, then," Lana said. "That sounds terrible."

"For three-hundred years, all people did was put her to sleep and make her more and more angry," Norman sighed. "I'm glad I could help her, too."
