Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Lana!" Wayne gave her his usual brusque greeting. "How are ya now? Sorry 'bout that. Had to go back home fer some chorin'."

Was he going to just pretend that was all it was because he'd only mentioned to one person that he even thought he was going home and staying?

That's a Texas-sized 10-4.

Though he supposed it might be a little difficult to pull that off with Okuyasu, who would probably be wondering why all of Wayne's stuff completely disappeared for a week but then was all back. But, then again...it was Okuyasu. He didn't think there was much to worry about there.

"I'm well; and you?" she asked politely. "Things at home are well, I hope?"

"Oh...." said Wayne, squinting a little with a faint hestiation, as his usual response didn't exactly line up with the truth, but anything less than the usual response seemed just impolite...or complainin'. "Not so bad....Got a couple of hired hands to help out for the fall an' everything, since I'll be...here...and...everything..."

He was quiet a moment, before coming out swinging once more with that boisterious persistence of his. "They'd do a real bang up job. Real fine work! Good to have 'em on board!"

"But you wish you were back there?" Lana asked. It wasn't hard to figure that out.

Wayne considered leaning in hard to pretending it was fine. It was impolite to complain. Uncle Eddie was a great guy, he was a fucking great guy! But still...

"Well, you might as well start callin' me Dorothy," he said, "'cause there's no place like home."

"Dorothy," Wayne confirmed, misinterpreting the reason for Lana's question. "But I s'pose it ain't no reason to get excited, either way. M'here, no other way around it, might as well try'n make the best of it."

"S'a movie reference, Lana," Wayne said, with perhaps the smallest sigh in the world, one most people'd probably miss unless they knew just where to look for it, turning his head. It was hard, havin' yer clever pop culture references appreciated, when you went to school with a whole bunch'a aliens... "Figgur it ouwt."
