Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"What I have in mind," she said, "involves pretty much finding every can of bright pink spaceship paint I can get my grubby little hands on."

Low profile? What was that?

"With turquoise accents. I'm willing to leave the details to you, though, because you've got a really good eye and I trust you'll make it way better than what'll probably be the result if I tried to actually explain to you my vision."

"The whole thing? Or just sections? Are there any other colors? What's my timeline?"

So that was a yes.

"Mostly pink," Summer said, "and turquoise, but I guess some yellow could look cool. Like I said, you have a good eye and a great style, so I'd be willing to let you take soem creative licence, as long as pink is definitely the first thing people are going to notice about it. Technically, there's no timeline....buuuut it's probably better done sooner rather than later. It's pretty much the only thing left to do before I finally head out."

So that was a please take as long as you need, you can't rush art, right?, but she just didn't exactly want to actually say it, lest anyone accuse her of dawdling.

Which she was totally doing.

Shh.

"Okay," Sabine nodded. "I can take a look at it later this week to see what I'm working with, and we can go from there?"

See, nothing super fast.

"Yeah, definitely," Summer agreed with a grin. "It's just parked over at the scrapyard, so you can pretty much check it out whenever, and let me know when you think you're ready to get to work? Thanks, Sabine. I really appreciate it. There's no way I can go out there with that thing looking the way it does, though."

"Well, you came to the right place. I'll make sure it's actually spaceworthy for you."

By which she meant "cool-looking."

Summer read you, Sabine, loud and crystal clear.

"There's a reason I saved the most important part for last."

"Where are you heading, anyway?" Sabine wondered.

Even though that cat had left the bag almost a full week ago, Summer still felt an odd reluctance to mention it, especially to anyone she knew was from that galaxy. Her smile was even a little apologetic, as if mentioning it was like saying a bad word.

"Coruscant," she said. "Finally found a spot for my jello shop, so I guess it's time to pack up, move out, and get to work..."

"Brave of you," Sabine told her.

She couldn't say anything about it, though. She avoided heavily Imperial areas, but that was because she had a history. Summer didn't.

And that was exactly why she was doing it.

She shrugged, mostly trying to dismiss it, although she'd take brave over stupid any day. One could argue there wasn't too big of a leap from one to the other.

"Hard to pull off a revolution if you're not."

"Thanks for that," Sabine said, even if she felt a little weird saying it, because she was barely in it at all herself. But it was still some version of her galaxy, so...

See, now, and there it was again, people from that galaxy actually acknowledging their appreciation for the things you did, and Summer wondered if that was just a thing or what, but she never really knew what to say or do because she never really got any of that back home.

"I just want to help," she said, shrugging again, and deftly stepping away from the topic. "So...are you excited for the next semester? Did you do the whole sibling thing?"

"I did," Sabine said. "Mostly I'm looking forward to leaving the summer behind and doing something different."

"Yeahhhhh," said Summer, shaking her head a little. "I don't think you'll run into too many people arguing with that. That was crazy, and that's coming from me. It takes a lot to throw me off, I like to think, but this summer definitely had me going. I mean, how do you think I even feel, I have to share a name with those last few months. Those last few months are canceled."

"If it helps, I promise not to associate you with that."

Probably didn't help.
