Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

The weather was warm, the food smelled good, and there was a good chance the new folks were a little extra glittery. What else could go into a perfect day for the picnic?

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Imagine if she'd been actively trying to be aggressively cheerful at you, instead of it just being her natural state, Trevor.

"They've been okay. You know. Other than that." What with the nearly getting fed to sentient machinery and all. She took a couple of pieces of what looked like pretzel sticks, but offered him some of the fruit and cheese on her plate in return. HA. "Did you sign up to do the little sibling thing this semester?"

She wasn't even trying to be sarcastic. It was an honest question. Though she would be surprised if the answer was yes.

He'd be forced to flee and regroup harder than he would if attacked by a dozen monsters.

"No. I don't think anyone wants me to do that," he huffed, accepting the fruit and cheese. "I'm working at the library."

Look at him offering information!

"You are?" Keyleth grinned at him. "Oh, that's so cool. Now I know where I can come find you and say hi every now and then!"

Weren't you glad you'd volunteered that information, Trevor?

". . . I'd just need to know which day, probably."

"Friday?" He regretted this already. God help him.

Hey, at least it was also the day Keyleth had to be at work! So it would be time-constrained regret at least.

"Aw." Keyleth's shoulders drooped a tiny little bit in disappointment. "I'd have to come bug you at lunchtime, since that's my shift at the flower shop."

But then she could come bring a bouquet to brighten up the circulation desk! Mwahahahaha. Oh wait, she could have done that anyway, BUT STILL.

A bouquet would just make him even worse at talking like a normal person!

"Bring food and you're welcome."

Just for that, Keyleth was going to swipe another pretzel from his plate.

"That sounds reasonable, but if you happen to have any food allergies, it'd be good to know about those up front."

"Food allergies?" HE WAS FROM THE 16th CENTURY. IN A SHITHOLE COUNTRY.

Look, she was all in tune with nature and stuff. She thought about these things.

"I'm taking that as a no, but you know, say, if you have eggs and you really shouldn't, is it just embarrassing bathroom trips for days, that kind of thing?"

Keyleth. There were plates of food here.

Damn hippie druids.

"...I don't think I have anything like that."

He ate dried goat and lived. He was unkillable.

"Oh, good. That's one less thing for me to worry about."

Keyleth beamed at him. (Figuratively. She didn't have that spell yet.)

"But I can do that! Any requests?"

C'mon, Keyleth. Light was a cantrip!

"Whatever you like," he settled on. Because now he was going to have to figure out how to return the favor. "I'm not picky."

Not on the druid spell list, though!

"You know, that actually takes a lot of the stress out of it for me?"

Because she would fret about this.

Druids had it rough, huh? You know. Said the... Fighter/Ranger hybrid.

"You cook a lot?" He literally survived on leftover food in the common rooms, so this was actually good to know.

To be fair, eventually the ability to change into a fire elemental at will would balance it out, because high-level druids were ridiculous.

"A little bit?" Heroes' Feast was a sixth level spell and even if it was within her abilities right now she couldn't afford to cast it. Gem-encrusted bowl worth 1000 gold pieces. What.

"Enough to get by, if I have to, but nothing really impressive."

Just get you a DM who didn't check those things out! Problem solved.

"Better than most. I can roast meat enough that it doesn't make me sick." Such skill.

"Which I feel is a severely underrated skill," Keyleth pointed out, because she had to try and put a positive spin on this, okay?

THE POSITIVITY WAS JUST MAGICAL.

"I'll make you something." And it would be takeout because he couldn't really char something over an open fire here. Well. Other than s'mores.

"That'd be neat," Keyleth said, and meant it. "Deal?"

And held a hand up for a high five, like the dork she was.

Trevor stared at her hand for a moment before grudgingly giving in to return the gesture.

Damn you for collecting goth boys, Keyleth.

She was only getting warmed up with this collection, Trevor. This was only the beginning.

She grinned at him, looking way too pleased about a successful high five.

"This is going to be neat."

Just. Don't go to a Depeche Mode concert or anything, Keyleth. That'd skew the numbers even worse.

Trevor sighed and stole another piece of cheese off her plate. "It'll be okay."

Yeah, no. That was too many people for her to deal with anyway.

"Just okay?" She gave him a mildly disappointed look, but at least it was a playful one. "Well, that's keeping your expectations reasonable, at least."

And it was decently high praise from him because he didn't immediately assume it would be shit.

"Haven't started the job yet," he pointed out. "Can't say for sure."

Maybe the librarian would kick them out!

Keyleth was going to get herself kicked out of a casino within five minutes of arriving someday, so that was not at all outside the realm of possibility.

"Good point. But you start this week, right? So we'll find out soon enough."
