Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The island was still thankfully, blissfully normal, so fingers were crossed that the picnic would go off without a hitch.

The weather was pleasant enough - sunny, but not so hot that people would melt outside - and all the decorations had been safely pulled out of storage. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and yellow balloons, a table for all the information the new students would need, and enough food to probably feed two islands. It was time to welcome some new folks, everyone!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"It's not quite a substitute, is it?" Lucifer said. "Though I suppose I did have some excellent coffee with some uppers mixed in, once upon a time. What was it again? Some kind of mushroom, I remember that much."

"Most mushrooms are psychedelics, not stimulants," Hannibal said, thinking. "Chaga, perhaps? Although I've never heard it used in coffee."

He was, meanwhile, pouring some of his very good coffee into a cup and holding it out.

"I own a night club," Lucifer confided, taking the cup. "It's where all the fun experimentation happens."

He took a sip. "Ah, I miss it already."

"What brings you to a high school, then?" Hannibal asked.

"My therapist thought I could use some distance from all my woes," said Lucifer, even though that had not, technically speaking, been what Linda had specifically meant or said.

... look, she knew him by now. She should've realized the risk. "And what place is further away from civilized LA than some backwards little island on the East Coast?"

"Europe," Hannibal answered. "If you're looking for drinks and good fashion, I'd suggest France or Italy, although I might be biased. But welcome to Fandom, in any event."

He stuck out his hand. "Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Should you wish further therapy, my office is always open to new patients. Should you not, I also teach here, so I'll simply offer a welcome as a fellow teacher."

"I suppose Dr. Linda was complaining I spend too much time calling her," Lucifer mused.

Oh god, Hannibal. He would actually take you up on that and you would regret it.

"I've spent a fair deal of my life in France and Italy. A bit too much general guilt floating around." He grinned, shrugging easily. "Catholics."

Only at that point did he take Hannibal's hand, shake it, and said, "Pleasure to meet you, Doctor Lecter. Lucifer Morningstar."

Hannibal's eyebrows raised. "The original, or unfortunate parents?"

Lucifer grinned broadly. "Why not both?"

Hannibal laughed. "Point taken. But now I really must ask - teaching high school?"

"It seemed like a good, dreary old escape from reality," Lucifer said, taking another sip of his coffee and really wishing there were some narcotics involved. "Of course, then I came here. I didn't realize there'd be so many children."

Hannibal was not going to point out to a potentially very powerful being that not expecting there to be children at a school was a bit ludicrous.

"You came here purely for the distance and the bars, then?"

Lucifer was a capricious powerful being at the best of times, and he had left LA under cover of darkness, fleeing the judgment of a woman many times his junior.

It was entirely possible he hadn't been thinking much at all.

"I have been told there are bars, but I haven't had a chance to gauge their quality," he said. "Still, Baltimore's nearby. I hear it's... quaint."

"One of the bars here, Caritas, doesn't card, so if you're avoiding the children, you'll probably prefer the Devil's Nest." Hannibal smirked a little. "Appropriately enough."

"Oooh, the Devil's Nest?" Lucifer said. "Clearly I need to make sure that name ceases to be an utter, filthy lie."

"I'm not certain how it got its name," Hannibal said. "It is, I believe, currently owned by a vampire. We also have a Demon Marcus in town for clothing."

"Vampires, really," Lucifer sighed. "Didn't they go out of fashion in the 90s?"

"As I understand it, he's much older than the 1990s," Hannibal said. "Likely even the 1890s." He wasn't sure how old Eric was, but he knew it was at least that long.

"Yes, yes, I know, there was a whole spell there where humans were obsessed with them," Lucifer sighed. "But I thought Stephenie Meyer finally got it out of everyone's systems. Never mind. I suppose I'll just have to see who's befouling my nest."

"Who knows; perhaps you could come to an understanding," Hannibal said. "Perhaps he needs a tenant."

Lucifer squinted at him. "I don't follow," he said. "Why would I be a tenant to anyone? I just bought that... reasonably-sized house on Griffin Way."

"If you were to make it your nest," Hannibal explained. "But instead I see we're neighbors - the house between yours and the school is mine."

"Ah, well hello, neighbor," Lucifer said, grinning. "Isn't it tradition to bring over some sort of casserole? I've never had neighbors before!"

Living up in a penthouse in LA would do that to you.

“Bite your tongue.” Hannibal grinned. “I can do much better than a casserole. What sorts of food do you enjoy?”

"Quite a range, but considering this picnic I'll go for anything more sophisticated than a grilled cheese sandwich," Lucifer said, fake-shivering.

(I made you grilled cheese. Your favorite. And not the smelly, fancy stuff, just the yummy orange kind that you like.)
