Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The island was still thankfully, blissfully normal, so fingers were crossed that the picnic would go off without a hitch.

The weather was pleasant enough - sunny, but not so hot that people would melt outside - and all the decorations had been safely pulled out of storage. There were tables and chairs set up with blue and yellow balloons, a table for all the information the new students would need, and enough food to probably feed two islands. It was time to welcome some new folks, everyone!

[OCD is up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"At this school, they should absolutely learn the running part," Kitty said, because it was like they hadn't learned a thing since Kitty had been their age, doing the exact same thing.

"Totally," agreed Kennedy, then made a wry sort of face. "'cause the thing me and my friends did, when I was a student here? Running off to someone's world every other week to stop it from ending or whatever? Not high on my recommendations list, actually."

She said, as if she wouldn't have rolled her eyes and completely ignored her future self's own advice at that age.

"I think the kids these days don't do that as much, but we all have collectively stopped trying them to fight in invasions, oh my god did I really say kids these days?"

Ugh.

"Hate to say it, but you really kinda did." Kennedy gave her a sympathetic look. "I feel you, though, 'cause I did that last week."

Apparently this was just going to be the picnic where the adults got to feel old all the time.

"Should we ask Zoe about the retirement plan here?" Kitty wondered, totally joking oh god help.

"Have to admit," Kennedy said, and that look of mild horror was just not going to go away for the rest of the day now, "I was kind of curious to see if it's better than the Council's."

Which she was going to have to yell at somoene to start fixing, now that the Slayer life expectancy had gone up considerably.

"This is a thing I think about. What even is my life."

Kennedy huffed a laugh and took a moment to look out at the students. And wonder when they started looking so young.

"Kinda more fun yelling at the kids to get off your lawn if you're not the only one yelling, huh?"
