Weapons 101; Tuesday, First Period [08/13].
Well, the class was still going to be meeting in the danger shop, because that was where this particular class was being held, but Amaya's little Ren Faire tournament staging area was completely replaced with something taken right from the Summer Smith file, because the students today would find themselves in a danger-shopped classroom, with the Action Blacksmith Blackstone smiling at them from the front (and fighting the temptation to rub her poor shoulder socket after yesterday, but, boy was she glad she got to take a break from blacksmithing this morning!) and Detective Ballerina Diaz nearby keeping a close eye on things because, with a class titled "Weapons 101," she had to make sure nothing untoward or unhappy or unacceptable was going on.
"Morning, everyone!" Amaya greeted them all brightly once they'd made it in and settled and it was time to start, and she gestured toward the chalkboard, where the word WEAPONS was written big and bold. "As you know, weapons are bad." Here, she turned to cross a big X over the word, and then added a sad face underneath it. Considered the sad face, and added another, but that one was crying. Look how unhappy it was, students! That was because weapons made people sad, and no one wanted sad! "There are so many much nicer ways to solve problems then using weapons, which are mean and not nice! So today, we are going to talk about one of my favorite ways to solve problems without using nasty, unhappy weapons, and that is going to be...."
Amaya quickly wrote, in big, bold letters, decorating it with smiley faces and hearts and rainbows.
"HUGS! Hugs are a great way to make things all better. Everybody loves hugs, it's impossible," anyone looking very closely may have noticed the first suggestion of a twitch there on Amaya's plastic molded face, "for anyone to feel unhappy with a hug. So today we'll be practicing our hugs and making everyone's day better. It's very easy to do, as well. But, of course, you should always ask permission before hugging someone. They're not going to say no," at least they'd better not! Saying no to a hug was definitely not happy! "but it's just polite. So, Detective Ballerina Diaz, if you don't mind, may I hug you to show the students how easy it is?"
And since no one was about to say no to a hug, Rosa smiled brightly and laughed a little as she bourréed forward en pointe with tiny little tutu-shaking steps. "Of course!"
And if something like Amaya Blackstone willingly, cheerfully, eagerly giving you a hug wasn't enough to snap a person out of this bullshit and make them realize that something was severely wrong here, then quite possibly nothing would.
Rosa was definitely snapping out of it mid-blacksmith-bear-hug, eyes widening as some sort of cold terror suddenly seized her heart.
"What the fuuu---" Quick assessment: Amaya hugging her, classroom full of students, they were both made of plastic and she was wearing a tutu, Army Men, Skywalker, be happy, have fun, what the fuuu-- "---uhhhhh great hug! What a great hug, Amay--err, Ms. Blackstone, thank you."
That beaming look of cheerfulness on Amaya's face was going to haunt Rosa's nightmares forever, and she broke off from the hug and turned that expression toward the students. "See? It's that easy! So now it's your turn, go ahead and take some time to give all of your friends and classmates a hug, and by the end of the class, you'll be an expert! And of course, we should also discuss other methods of solving problems that don't involve bad, nasty weapons, so that we remember that's always a much happier solution! Are there any questions?"
There were. Lots. From Rosa. But she was definitely not about to go asking them here.
[[ ocdon the way! is up! Come get your hug on! ]]

Listen to the Lecture - Weapons, 08/13.
Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
EVERYBODY.
So take this time to use this class to improve your probably already excellent hugging skills, because one can always be a better hugger, right?
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Nina was all over this class--and just about as giggly as she would be had this been any other week over this, and it should probably mean something that the enforced perkiness wasn't much different from her norm, but no, it was just a happy coincidence--as she looked around for someone to hug!
Or to be hugged by someone! That would also be excellent!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"Niiiinaaaaa~" He sang a little, then chuckled as he opened up his arms. "Come on, girl, bring it in!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"Proooooooooooomptooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You know, like, you don't even need to ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Incoming hug!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She was definitely not as well articulated as he was—he had so many joints!—but she could manage an angular sort of hug!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
And those freely moving limbs were wrapping Nina up in a great big best friend hug that was a squeeze at first and then a comfortable linger as he grinned. "Ms. Blackstone said it was polite to ask; I wouldn't want to be ruuuuuuude!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"I suppose," Nina conceded, laughing as she did. "Though, like, I don't think a hug from you to me would ever be rude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Squish this cat! Squish her, Nina!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"Ohmygosh!!!!!!!!!!!" she squealed, leaning in for a biiiiiiiiiiiiig hug.
Nina wasn't nearly as huggable as Mae, of course, but Mae's soft, squishy body made up for that, surely! And what Nina couldn't make up for, being plastic, she always made up for in enthusiasm!
"You're so great, Mae!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
She was being somewhat squished out of shape here. Which wasn't the most comfortable feeling in the world. That was definitely the reason for the creeping sensation of horror crawling up the back of her neck.
She patted Nina with her big squeaky paws -- her arms weren't long enough to do much more -- and stared past Nina's shoulder, eyes just as wide and round as they always were, when they weren't happy crescent lines.
She was being hugged. She was made to be hugged. This was the right way for the world to be.
Wasn't it?
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"Oh my gosh, Mae!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nina gave her another squish as she thought of something. "You should, like, totally have a hugging booth at my party tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone would be so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Mae flailed her arms. Considering most of her communication style currently involved no small amount of cheerful arm flailing, even she wasn't entirely sure if she was agreeing or trying to escape.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"You'll do it??!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, I'm so glad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And, since it would be rude to hug anyone for too long unless they wanted another hug, Nina was going to let Mae go. For now!
"Ohmygosh, I can't believe I've never thought of it before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your hugging booth will be the biggest hit there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
And if, like, Mae got lost being a good toy, because Mae was definitely a good toy, then, like, Nina would just have to step in and give out hugs herself! Marvelous!
"Oooooooooooh, but maybe other people will want their own hugging booths!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you think, Mae??????!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!! Would you be willing to share the spotlight?!?!?!?!?!?!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Nodded kind of hard.
How could she possibly hog the spotlight Nina, that wasn't what good toys did, was it?
Honestly, she really wasn't sure right now. Was it? Was it??
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
So, of course he'd be eager and happy to share some hugs with his classmates, especially as he wound up feeling really, really relieved because the name of this class made him a little nervous that they might be discussing some not-so-fun things, but of course, that was just a really silly thought, because he knew their teachers wouldn't do something like that!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Look how huggable she was! Look what a very good and obedient toy!
The joy of not having a mouth and having only about two different expressions with her giant
nightmareeyes was that it was very hard to tell that Mae was starting to freak out on the inside.Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Mae, you were so super-huggable right now, and Prompto was so super-oblivious and happy right now that you were getting hugged so hard right now!
"Ohmygosh," he gushed and there may have been a snuggle that he couldn't quite help, "you're just so soft."
The hug then came with a little extra experimental squeeze.
"And squeaky!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
This was weird. This was so very weird. Why was this weird she was a good toy she was a very good toy!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Mae gave Prompto happy crescent eyes and two big thumbs up.
She was the BEST HUGGER!
That was how things were supposed to be in this world. The weird creeping horror feeling must be some sort of anomaly. Why would the best hugger not want to get hugged?
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
What with being a soft, squishy cloth toy and all. Her only hard bits were the squeakers in her feet and hands.
She patted her squeaky mitten-paws on her round little belly and looked around for someone to get squished by.
This was going to be great! . . . Right?
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
And maybe! Just maybe! She was looking for people who didn't seem to be into hugs enough.
Or who were way too into hugs.
It was a fine line.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
"Saaaaaaaaaabiiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Incoming hug!
But, no, she was definitely a very good toy right now.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
It was still hard, with her giant head. She was managing!
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
But there was only one way to find out, right?
"Sabiiiiiiiiinnnneee," he laughed, bouncing up on surprisingly free and mobile feet, opening his arms which actually were pretty great for hugging compared to some others, "you know I gotta get a hug from you, too!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
It was hard to gloms with a head like this, but she'd learned Ways. Because hugs were important.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
And if she was looking around just a bit for people from Caritas last night to remind her that this wasn't okay, well, at least she was subtle about it.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
And those guns were opening up with his polite request for hug fulfilment. "Whattya say?"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Prompto defintiely hurried over to help her back up, though. "Are you okay? Oh, man, I'm so sorry! I gotta be faster with my hugs, I guess!"
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Hugs! - Weapons, 08/13.
Discuss! - Weapons, 08/13.
But only if they're happy and fun and nice!
Re: Discuss! - Weapons, 08/13.
A beat.
"And parties!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sabine and I," mostly her, let's be real, "are thinking of holding a party tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're all invited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Re: Discuss! - Weapons, 08/13.
Re: Discuss! - Weapons, 08/13.
Except dirty traitors.
"Detective Ballerina Diaz too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
They wouldn't have any traitors at all at her party, right, if a detective was there!
Re: Discuss! - Weapons, 08/13.
And then caught up with what Nina had said and put on her best, brightest smile.
"Ohhh, well, thank you, Nina!" she said, fluttering her pretty eyes and dipping a small curtsy in gratitude. "That does sound like a wonderfully fun time, and I'd hate to miss any of that fun that we are all going to definitely be having at your party. Only the most fun...right?"
Hey, look, she was apparently working with the Army Police here, and if she could maybe add a slight threatening lilt to that cheerfulness at the end to maybe encourage the students to not want to associate with her too heavily, with being part of the Fun Police, then that was only a win in her book.

Re: Talk to the Teachers - Weapons, 08/13.
...and not just because once class was done, she was back in the shop, and back to endlessly employing her Blacksmith Action ArmTM all over again...
Re: Talk to the Teachers - Weapons, 08/13.
And why was she in a goddamn tutu??
Ohhhhh, man, as soon as she had two seconds away from this fake happy bullcrap, she was burning this whole place down. Down.
She didn't even care how all that burning plastic was going to smell, this was messed. up.
But she was smiling, goddammit, and desperately hoping that none of the students decided to practice their dumb stupid hugging with her.
