Fun with Science! | Tuesday, 4th period

"Well, we're back to sort of normal," Miguel said, looking at the students. "Last week didn't give me much time to come up with a final, though. So here's what we've got: you're all going to build a structure. Fort, tower, something like that. No bigger than fits in this room as it is." Which would give them one story life-size, or several if they went smaller. "I'm going to try to break it. Use any science you can think of to make it impenetrable. I'll use science against it. Hopefully if nothing else, you'll learn what works the next time the island goes crazy."

Wayne was...in no mood to deal with classes today, but he was trying to will himself into feeling better, or just denying that he wasn't feeling well entirely, a delicate blend of all those things, and so he was frowning as he considered their assignment for the day.

To be fair, he was usually frowning when he considered their assignments for the day.

"Question," he said, brow furrowing a little more as he absentmindedly scratched at an itchy patch underneath his elbow. "So the goal here is to use science to make an inpenetrable structure...even though there ain't nothing that's really impenetrable...but we use science to do it. And let's say I use the science of this room to just say that, okay, okay, sure, this here material I've used is impenetrable, because the science of the room says it can be whatever I want, but then can't you just use the science of the room to say whatever you're using is slightly more impenetrable, and then it's not so much as use actually using any sort of science, but rather use just one-upping each other like sort of a holographic virtual reality pissin' contest? No matter what I build, you've got the science and technology to come up with something that'll tear it down, so what's even the point?"

Wayne, it seemed, was clearly trying to build his structure out of logic. At a time when his head wanted nothing to do with logic and just wanted to go lie down for a while.

Actually, that did help Wayne out, quite a lot, actually, because now there were set and established rules that would easily prevent this from becoming the sort of 'my dick is bigger, because Danger Shop' anarchy he'd initially invisioned. And, since he had no reason not to distrust the fact that Miguel would follow his own established rules, he gave a small, satisfied nod of his head, frowned a little as he considered things further, and then set to work.
