Philosophy of Food | Monday, 4th period

"Welcome back," Hannibal said to the students once they arrived in the Danger Shop. "Today is our last day, and that means our final. Ordinarily we would have been working on this throughout the term, and I would require that you cook it yourself. However, the island's whims being what they are..." He spread his hands.

"So, for your final today, use this room's abilities to help you create a food with special meaning to you. Serve it to the rest of us, and explain it - what makes this food special, what gives it its meaning, what the flavors are, and what setting you would choose for it. Tell us all about it."

It was Monday, the dome was gone (and, presumeably, those raving violent lunatics with it), Nina was having a party later, and now he had an open canvas for food-stuff to present in class and he knew exactly what he was going to do without even having to think about it.

It was a good day.

Prompto didactually make Dr. Lecter facepalm a little, because he was in a good mood and when he was in a good mood, he could be a little bit of a brat.

Okay, maybe a lot a bit.

Because you were all totally being served Cup Noodles right now.

Styrofoam container and everything.

"So this," said Prompto, who clearly put a lot of effort into presentation by putting those steaming cups of noodles, dried veggies, and sodium on a silver platter with a little fancy-ass sprig of parsley floating at the top of each one, "is Cup Noodle, which, despite what some people say," YANG, "is a great anytime food, even for breakfast, though it mostly has significance because it's what me and my boys back home tend to go for when we're busy training and there's not a whole lot of time for Iggy to whip up something else. So it's quick, it's convenient, sometimes you can throw in some fresh, like, meat and stuff to make it the ultimate flavor experience," yeah, he figured Gladio would be pretty proud of that little nugget. "It's also, like, perfect for those nights when you hit the gaming sesh real hard, too! So, like, it's just special because it's tied in with a lot of good memories of my friends, because, you know, you don't need something really fancy or anything for it to be special. In fact, it's kind of nice, because it's so quick and easy and convenient, that you have more time for all that other stuff!"

And with that last part, he flashed a grin that had actually gone pretty sincere and genuine there, because silly as it may have been, the whole thing with Cup Noodle really was kind of special for him. Shut up!

Hannibal could appreciate the idea of comfort food, and of convenience, and he was very pleased Prompto was putting real thought into this.

He still wasn't going to eat much of the over-salted monstrosity, but he did appreciate it.

"Thank you," he said with a nod to Prompto. "Good memories are an important reason certain foods stick with us. Memories are very strongly associated with smell, particularly."

Prompto snorted a little bit of a laugh, maybe a little disappointed that Dr. Lecter didn't seem to have even hardly any disapproval over his final pretty much being instant noodles, but, well, he just supposed that only went to prove the transformative and all-encompassing greatness that was Cup Noodles^TM!

"Oh, definitely!" he agreed. "The moment you get that first whiff of the flavor packet rising up on the steam...bam, like, instant good feelings, man."

Aaaaand now Prompto was convinced that, at the first sign of anything awful this week, he was really going to take himself up on that Insomnia retreat because now he just wanted an all-week gaming binge in Noct's apartment.

Nell put together one of her mother's savory stews and a quickbread for sopping up the juices.

"This here's got lots of savory flavor and just a bit o'spice," Nell explained. "It's something my mom always made for us young-uns 'cause it goes far and it's awful tasty. It makes me think of home. S'far as setting goes, I'd say round a nice table where everyone can see each other and talk about their day."

"That sounds lovely, Nell, thank you." And the stew was simple, but at least not oversalted and overprocessed like Prompto's. "Stews are easy to stretch for more mouths when needed, and a little meat goes a long way in them."
