"Today we talk about free media," Josh said, tossing down the Washington Post. "Or, more accurately, earned media, because you have to work to get these folks to cover you."

He ran a hand through his hair. "And to cover the aspects of the campaign you want them to talk about. They're more than happy to write horse-race pieces: who's polls have them ahead, the easy stuff. Try to get them to write about your Social Security reform plan is like pulling teeth. You're trying to get them to stick to your message--the one that you've built your entire campaign plan around, remember--and they have other ideas."

He sat down and waved his hands in the air. "Okay. Today think of a story you'd like the press to cover about your candidate and talk out the approach you'd take to pitch the idea with your group members."

Angel signed in, still wearing his new shirt (http://psycho-barbie.livejournal.com/26653.html?thread=498461#t498461).

Josh blinked at the shirt.

"Scrapbooking? You lose a bet? Or is this some kind of band I'm not cool enough to have heard of?"

Angel looked innocent. "Aren't you proud of your hobbies?"

"Not that much, no," Josh said, staring at the shirt. "I don't go around dressed in a Galaxy Quest uniform or anything."

"I think if someone has an interest there's no harm in sharing it," Angel said ~~giving Josh props for the canon reference~~. "With the right people, of course."

"Well, I guess I'm flattered that you want to share your love of scrapbooking with me, then," Josh said. "I've never really understood the appeal of it, personally."

"I find it very soothing to work with my hands," Angel replied.

Josh nodded. "I can see that." He shrugged. "Maybe I should try it. Have any suggestions for getting started?"

"Find someone you like to do it with," Angel said. Oddly, he was glad he'd had Prof. Tick first thing in the morning. Once he'd resigned himself to going to Hell for that the rest was cakewalk. "Sure you could do it by yourself but it's not the same thing. Kinda empty. Not as much fun."

"Huh," Josh said. "Good advice. Maybe after graduation you could come over and show me how's it's done, then."

Amazingly Angel didn't miss a beat.

"Don't you think that might give people the wrong idea about how I earned my grade?"

Josh scrubbed his hands through his hair. "Maybe," he said. "Guess I'll have to ask around, see who else is into scrapbooking. Maybe we could turn it into a party or something."

"Some people say scrapbooking goes on in the second floor common room all the time," Angel said. "Could be a place to start, depending on who you ask."

Parker is dying trying not to giggle. She is also semi-horrified.

Angel looked at her innocently.

Parker shook her head, and said, "Why don't you bring in your scrapbook sometime to show Professor Lyman?"

Because yeah, it's been noted, she's going to Hell too.

"I don't know, Parker," Angel replied, sweetly. "He seems uncomfortable enough just seeing me in the T-shirt."

Parker put her hands over her face and just lost it at that point, very quietly, but very, very clearly to anyone watching. "I think the original Donna would slap you right now...."

Angel reached over to pat her on the back as though she were coughing. "Need a glass of water?"

"'m good." Hee. Parker peers through her fingers. "Call?"

"Cal gave me the shirt, yeah."

"And you wore it because...?" Parker's not even sure she wants to know, it's just this compulsion to ask.

Angel grinned. "Thought it'd make her smile."

Parker snickers. "You walking teddy bear. Sheesh."

"Shh," Angel put a finger to his lips. "Our little secret."

"Good to know," Josh said, smiling. "Thanks."

"Happy to help," Angel said. Wow did the stoic come in handy as he added, "Or lend a hand, if that's your preferred phrasing."

And that was when Rory choked.

Ever the gentleman, Angel patted her on the back too.

Logan signed in.

Alanna signed in.

Rory signed in, yay.

Callisto signed in.

"Something about the teaching money for the reservations." Parker made a face, thinking. "Maybe combine it with Chris LeDoux, and hold a concert there? The media likes to cover celebrities."
