Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the picnic continued, there were tables and chairs arranged on the lawn, the food smelled delicious and inviting, and no one was going to be bitey without explicit consent. Hopefully, everyone would take some time to enjoy themselves!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"If she drinks," Norman added. "Maybe she doesn't drink?"

He was back to worrying too much again.

"Then she won't drink," Lana said sensibly. "But she'll have you to help her past the zombies."

"I mean, I could introduce her to the zombies," Norman noted. "I don't think she's going to think I'm any less crazy when that happens, though."

"No, but being introduced to them might make them a little less overwhelming," Lana pointed out. "Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever been introduced to them. I don't even know their names."

Norman paused for a long moment.

"... You know, I don't know their names, either."

And he'd spoken to them.

"I wonder if the owner knows?" Lana asked. "Or if they can write them down? I haven't understood their...talking?" Verbalizations?

"They talk," Norman replied with a shrug. "They just don't talk in a language most of the living can understand."

"If you do, that's even better," Lana said. "You can ask them. What are they like?" she asked, curious. "Are they much like living people, or do they have different concerns and interests? Apart from the obvious."

Most living people, unless they were poorly augmented cyborgs, didn't have to worry about losing pieces.

Norman shrugged.

"They're just guys who like music," he explained. "They were really encouraging when I had to take the stage to do a comedy thing for drama class last semester, actually. Good people who also happen to be dead."

"That's good to know. I've never met anybody dead like that before," Lana said.

"I was eleven before I'd ever met somebody dead like that," Norman replied. "They're not exactly running around everywhere, you know?"

... Well, some worlds...

"Around here, I've learned there are worlds for everything," Lana said. "There's probably some they are."

"Probably," Norman agreed, and then frowned a little. "... Those must be sad worlds, though."

He really didn't want to go there. And he was the person who could talk to them.

"Why?" Lana asked. "They wouldn't have to worry about other people there, and everyone would understand them, wouldn't they?"

She had possibly missed things like the zombies' bits falling off.

"Well, they'd understand one another," Norman offered, "but..."

He shrugged.

"I think the zombies at the bar are kind of the exception. The zombies I met before coming here were mostly just... trapped."

"Trapped?" Lana thought about it. "That sounds awful, yes."

"Yeah, it wasn't... great."

He couldn't feel sorry for them, though. They'd brought it upon themselves. Sort of.

"I suppose it just depends on the zombie."

"Probably," Lana agreed. "I'm glad at least the ones here are happy."

Norman nodded a little bit.

"Yeah," he agreed softly. "Me too."

If they weren't, he'd have to do something about it. And... really, he wasn't feeling so up to doing much about anything ever again, at this point.

He would. Of course he would. He didn't have it in him to not.

But right now, when it didn't really matter much, he was allowed to be afraid. And tired. And still just that little bit heartsick.
