Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

As the picnic continued, there were tables and chairs arranged on the lawn, the food smelled delicious and inviting, and no one was going to be bitey without explicit consent. Hopefully, everyone would take some time to enjoy themselves!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

And with that, Hernando was casually but carefully dumping the Lipton from his cup into the grass near a tree and holding his mug back out. "Dr. Lecter," he smiled, "Thank you for your kind offer; please save me from terrible tea fannings?"

He returned the nod and said, "I've been well. Sparkle heard of some excitement on the radio and barricaded us in our home so I've spent much of the week cooking and watching telenovelas." Among other things. It was a slight exaggeration. Sparkle hadn't exactly barricaded the door but he'd been most insistent that neither of them were going outside and that the shop was definitely not opening until the coast was clear. "Did you and your husband weather this latest event?"

Hannibal smiled and poured him a cup. "Please allow me. Yes, we're well, thank you. And Sparkle had the right idea; apparently some people were badly hurt. I'm pleased you spent the week so pleasantly."

"Thank you so much," Hernando said, breathing in the scent of very good coffee with relief.

"Someone mentioned vampires," he said quietly, "If Sparkle had not volunteered to stay inside, I believe I would have come down with a brief case of hysterics until he did." Taking a sip, he made an approving noise and added, "He is a trouble magnet, so he says, and this was trouble he did not need. Nor I. I am glad you and Jonothon were also well. Are you teaching this term?"

"You're very welcome." Hannibal nodded. "Sparkle has had previous bad experiences with vampires, I believe. It was definitely trouble that he did not need. And yes, I am. The Philosophy of Food. I've taught it in the summers before, and I always enjoy it, if only for the excuse to cook."

"Mm," Hernando agreed after another sip, "It sounds like a very interesting class. What sort of foods do you anticipate making?"

"My first class has traditionally involved coffee, fried tarantulas, and a Big Mac," Hannibal said. "It's all about getting the students to think about what they consider food."

Hernando made a face, "McDonald's?" Fried tarantulas, sure. No problem. But.. that?

Hannibal chuckled. "Certainly not something I consider proper food, but undoubtedly some of the students do. It's designed to make them think."

"I suppose if one were starving or on a very low budget, it would be a thing to eat," Hernando said as a concession. Then he gave a crooked smile, "Or if one was Sparkle with a craving."

He adored Sparkle. Sometimes Sparkle's dietary choices horrified him right down to the ground.

Hannibal shook his head. "I could always change the supposed burger out for Pop Tarts." Honestly, Sparkle.

"They're terrible little pies," Hernando said with a small grimace, "and not nearly enough jam inside, but not nearly so horrifying as Mooby's."

"I have luckily never had to stoop so low," Hannibal said. "Although I will admit to subjecting myself to a portion of a single Pop Tart in order to understand what Sparkle sees in them. It was a failed attempt."

The flamingos had loved the rest of the box.
