The good news was, the forcefield was down!

The bad news was, there were creepy things in town and stories of murders and bodies disappearing all over the news across the causeway and... yeah, Khadgar didn't even know where to start looking for books that might help with that, but he was certainly willing to try.

John was there, of course, going back and forth from his office, cursing at the coffee maker, and occasionally kicking the door of Special Collections, just because it made him feel better.

He glanced over as Peter came in, letting out a huff of exhaustion. "You don't look like a man with good news, mate."

Peter shrugged. "Whatever's out there's not like any vampire or Shadow I've fought before. Definitely some variety, but what world they're from or how to fight them beyond ripping them into pieces is beyond me. And the ones that might still be partly human..."

He sighed. "Found anything yet?"

“Typical ‘pointy end goes here’ stuff, mostly,” John grumbled. “But these partly human ones... tell me more about them. Maybe we need to come at this ass-backwards to get pointed in the right direction.”

"They don't seem to be the same as the others," Peter said. "Still dangerous, but less powerful, more...feral. There's a magic around them, but it seems a bit less focused."

“So let’s start there,” John decided, beckoning Peter to follow him back into his office. “Feral vampires are a lot less common than your basic bad attitude biters. C’mon, I got all the good books in here already.”

There were piles and piles of books in there, but John pointed at one pile, slightly smaller than the rest. “Those are everything so far that don’t focus on various methods of staking but are more history, so let’s get cracking.”

"Right." Peter eyed the books and sighed. "Sure you don't want to just go out and capture one?"

Okay, he was already reaching for a book to start with. But still.

"I'm not adverse to torture to get the information we need, if you think these assholes actually know anything," John admitted. "But 'm guessing 'ferals' don't chat much, and the peons we could catch won't know shit."

"True enough." Peter started flipping through, looking for anything useful. "Doesn't mean it doesn't sound easier."

He caught sight of one of the images, and it reminded him - "Does 'glowing blue eyes' help? Most I know of go red or yellow."

"What, like that one girl that teaches?" he asked, grabbing a book of his own to start paging through it. "--but yeah, that ought to help. Skim the reading and start looking for pictures."

Peter nodded, doing just that. "Should we look for 'can cast magical barriers', too, or do you think that was the island?"
