A New You, Tuesday, Period Two

Today, class, you were meeting in the Danger Shop outside a large cave entrance. Fjord was there leaning against a boulder, arms crossed over his chest.

He was smirking.

"First off," he drawled, "I want to congratulate Yelden on taking initiative and becoming the new face of the party in conversation."

Really, if it had to be the fighter or the rogue, Fjord wanted the one who wasn't just acting in self-interest. Though watching this whole campaign slowly snowball into a nightmare of consequences had been fun in its own way, too.

"For the rest of you, this means you've got two homeless kobolds and a wyrmling all looking for an assist in clearing out the cave of the violent creature that shredded the wyrmling's wing and is keeping him from going back home. Remember, for the more monetarily driven of you, that there's still a handsome reward back in town for keeping the dragon from wandering too close to the outskirts, and," he nodded toward the wyrmling, whose good wing was mantled and whose tail was thrashing behind him as he peered into the cave, "dragons keep treasure troves."

Just throwing that out there for the roguish of you.

"So," he smirked at the party. "In you go."

Fjord enjoyed this entirely too much.

Fenris took a step back and gasped an inhale. Bad choice, that smell lingered. He made a face and then grinned. "You're welcome. They're all over the beach. I thought you might like some for lunch."

"Well, that was mighty kind of you, Fenris," Fjord replied, closing the bag up again so that hopefully in a few moments, Fenris would be able to breathe again. "Want me to take these somewhere a little more ventilated before having a go at them?"

"You probably want to eat them while they're still warm," Fenris shrugged, "It's just standing over the bag of them that's a little.. fragrant."

Fjord chuckled and took a few steps back. And then considered Fenris a moment. And took a few more.

"Little bit," he allowed, and opened the bag up again. "I'll sit over here."

"That should do," Fenris agreed. As much as avoiding the smell of cooked seafood in an enclosed building ever really could. "I don't know if they're supposed to have sauce or anything," he said, "There wasn't any on the beach."

"Supposed to? Nah. They can, but hell if I've had anything fancy with mine, most of the time."

Fjord was not choosy.

So long as it didn't have sour cream, apparently.

"There are more on the beach if those aren't enough," Fenris said, "If the seagulls haven't found them."

"I think these'll do," Fjord replied, picking one out of the bag between his nails and then popping it into his mouth.

Yup. That was definitely a scallop. A damn good one, too.

"I'm not in the mood to fight gulls for my food today, anyhow."

Fenris squinted at him a little. "Are you feeling quite alright?"

Did you just say you weren't in the mood to fight?

Who even were you?

Fjord blinked, and then laughed.

"C'mon, Fenris. Gulls? They're fuckin' sky rats, that's no challenge."

"Have you ever tried to hit a gull with a sword?" Fenris asked with his eyebrows raised, "Not as easy as it looks. Those little buggers have dexterity that ground-rats don't."

He sighed. "I suppose, though, that they don't need to be hunted. It's not like you could eat the filthy things."

"Wouldn't want to," Fjord agreed. "That point, it's just killin' for the sake of killin', and if I wanted to do that, I could make a real challenge in here, instead."

"Pest control," Fenris pointed out. He looked around. "How does this place work, anyway?"

"Well..." Fjord glanced around. "I can't give you a technical explanation, I don't know that much myself. But far as I can tell, you tell it to make something happen, and it does."

Much science. So explain.

"When you're done eating, show me how you make something happen?" Fenris said. He was bored.

Fjord popped another scallop into his mouth.

"Sure," he agreed. "Anything in particular you want to see while we're in here?"

"I haven't seen it do anything at all," Fenris shrugged, "You've been griping about your class. Show me what you're doing with them?"

Fjord shrugged.

"Sure," he replied. "We can start with the jail sim and move right on through the kobolds and gnolls, if we've got time before the next class needs the room."

"Gnolls are the problem ones, right?" Fenris asked, "The ones who are eating the kobolds?"

"Right," Fjord confirmed with a nod. "Really, they'll eat anyone, so long as they're meat."

Anyone, anything. They didn't seem to be picky.

"How very egalitarian of them," Fenris made a face.

"Yeah," Fjord replied, rolling his eyes and eating another scallop. "They're right fuckin' charming."

Gnolls. Who even liked them?

"Better than if they were racist or speciesist," Fenris pointed out, "I'll take equal opportunity awful over exclusionary awful any day."

A beat.

"Less guilt when I kill them, because generally if they're equal opportunity it means everyone hates them in return."

"All the more reason to put 'em down fast?" Fjord grinned. "Then hell, yeah, I'll have to bring up the gnolls for you."

And hopefully this time it would not be a purple dinosaur sim instead.

Fenris gestured at the controls, "Then by all means, gnoll away."

He'd squint at a purple dinosaur and then probably attack it anyway. Stupid elf.
