A New You, Tuesday, Period Two
Today, class, you were meeting in the Danger Shop outside a large cave entrance. Fjord was there leaning against a boulder, arms crossed over his chest.
He was smirking.
"First off," he drawled, "I want to congratulate Yelden on taking initiative and becoming the new face of the party in conversation."
Really, if it had to be the fighter or the rogue, Fjord wanted the one who wasn't just acting in self-interest. Though watching this whole campaign slowly snowball into a nightmare of consequences had been fun in its own way, too.
"For the rest of you, this means you've got two homeless kobolds and a wyrmling all looking for an assist in clearing out the cave of the violent creature that shredded the wyrmling's wing and is keeping him from going back home. Remember, for the more monetarily driven of you, that there's still a handsome reward back in town for keeping the dragon from wandering too close to the outskirts, and," he nodded toward the wyrmling, whose good wing was mantled and whose tail was thrashing behind him as he peered into the cave, "dragons keep treasure troves."
Just throwing that out there for the roguish of you.
"So," he smirked at the party. "In you go."
Fjord enjoyed this entirely too much.

Hopefully you all have dark vision.
Re: Lecture!
Get it together, Keyleth, this is literally what you're supposed to be training for!
Into the Cave
Into the Cave - The Journey
Chat to him, to the kobolds, amongst yourselves, make sure you're ready for a fight...
But no, really, how well can you see in the dark?
Re: Into the Cave - The Journey
Yelden couldn't, though, and this was kind of the reason Keyleth was doing a lot of internal flailing right now. Okay, one of the reasons. Another one of which was that they were . . . having a dragon . . . escort them to its cave, which just seemed, well, very unorthodox.
Re: Into the Cave - The Journey
She was also keeping a close eye on that dragon and the kobolds, since she didn't trust them at all. Still...hoard. And reward.
Re: Into the Cave - The Journey
THIS GUY!
So hopefully everyone else could please excuse Seros as he tried to hang as closely to other bodies who seemed to be doing a much better job of moving through the cave than he would by his lonesome and the fact that he'd be likely to unleash one of his spells at the drop of a hat, and really, really wishing he'd gone fire instead of ice.
Fire created light, dude. And light was a good thing.
Into the Cave - The Demon
Nothing.
Nothing.
Until you enter a chamber with a floor that seems to sparkle as though illuminated on its own, any light you're setting off reflecting over thousands of pieces of gold and gems.
And then even that light disappears, seems to get pushed away violently as shadows coalesce in the middle of the room, and from those shadows, rises a shape.
Looks like you've found your demon.
Re: Into the Cave - The Demon
Hey, at least this was motivation for Keyleth to be more selective about the ones she learned for real later on.
She'd throw the torch at the demon, but nobody needed the party melee fighter having to attack at disadvantage.
Re: Into the Cave - The Demon
Yeah, Jatila was stealthing. At worst, it'd let her attack from hiding. At best, maybe she'd just get out of there.
Re: Into the Cave - The Demon
really, I swearlong enough to know......but Seros was having a real hard time doing what he needed to do right now with Prompto over here trying his very best to not freak out over being in a cave with people who made bad decisions with a daemonic shape rising up out of the shadows.
Prompto reached immediately for a gun at his hip that was not there, muttered "Fuck!", and quelled his panic by reminding himself that this wasn't real, this was just a game, remember, you spastic stupid coward, and it was okay. No guns, but Seros had magic, and so he was going to go ahead and use that magic as soon as he was able. Because if this wasn't a good time for a good dose of Magic Missles, then he really didn't know what would be.
Seros, he decided, was not afraid of the dark and daemons. And though he didn't fully actually manage to believe it, it did sort of help a little.
Into the Cave - Aftermath
Are you going to try to talk the wyrmling out of his treasure?
Or just make off with it?
Or do something infinitely more horrible?
... Just covering the bases, here.
Talk to Fjord!
Hell, if you ask him nicely enough, he might even participate in the demon fight. He's bored, guys.
Re: Talk to Fjord!
[last name redacted]."Did you make them all go in a dark cave? You asshole."
Hi to you too, Fjord, from the human painfully aware of her own lack of darkvision!
Re: Talk to Fjord!
"It was either this or they fight the dragon," Fjord replied amiably as he meandered back out into the daylight. Smirking.
Look, he was a charismatic man. That didn't mean he was a nice one.
"The kobolds weren't terribly fond of them for some reason, after all."
Re: Talk to Fjord!
Don't look smug about that, Beau. Technically they're at a higher level than you are right now, and you're going to end up part of the biggest disaster crew this side of the Lucidian Ocean, so you really can't talk at all.
Re: Talk to Fjord!
Fjord shrugged his shoulders, smiling crookedly.
"When a bunch'a little guys come to you saying, 'gnolls are eating our babies,' what do you do?"
Spoiler: Probably not what these idiots did.

And Fjord... was blinking as the bag was shoved at him, and then opening it up and peering inside.
And then grinning. That was a good amount of choice scallops, right there.
"Aw, Fenris, you shouldn't have."
