"Hey." Miguel greeted the students with a little wave from the hand that wasn't holding his coffee. "For those of you I didn't have in the Fall, I'm Miguel O'Hara. Sure, call me Doctor or Mister if you have to, otherwise Miguel's fine. And no, I'm not hungover, my eyes are light-sensitive. I got to choose my own class this time, so we're doing fun things with science instead of trying to figure out impossible things. But hey, if you figure out an impossible thing, maybe we can patent it for you."

He gestured at the Danger Shop around them. "We'll be meeting here every week. Safeties are a good thing, and this way you won't kill each other." Especially since Beaker was in the class again.

"Today's for introductions, but don't think that gets you out of science. It's problem solving, so I want you to solve the problem of how to introduce yourself with flair and give me an idea of who you are. With science! If you need some ideas, here."

He passed out tablets with several different suggestions of things they could do.

"Any of these, anything else you can think of as long as you can explain the science behind it in at least general terms. Give us your name and where you're from, and show us some science you like! Oh, and if anyone's interested, I could use a TA; come let me know."

Wonder what you're in for.

Astrid was mostly just trying to figure out if a focus on more science instead of just pretending about science and mostly just making things that looked cool and sciency would be a good thing or a detriment to her. She guessed she'd find out, since her case worker seemed real stuck on her checking those science boxes on her general education aptitude.

Or, really, her case worker did the best he could in building something that resembled a normal high school education for her out of what was available.

Either way, she flipped through the suggestions for a bit of inspiration, and actually liked quite a lot of the ideas, they were simple, doable, made sense, even artistic...and then she got to the last one, and was just going to give Mr. O'Hara a look.

Sabine looked through the ideas and got the feeling that she was in the right class. Even if a couple of the suggestions were way easier than what she did on a regular basis. Eh, it was the first week.

Entrapta was so excited to be in a class about science, she was just letting out a long squeal under her breath, sounding almost like a boiling kettle.

"Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee--"

Sure, none of those science suggestions appealed to her - okay, maybe the cloning, but robots were clearly more efficient - but he did say they were only suggestions.

"--eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

Jesus, girl, take a breath.

Miguel winced. "Are you okay?"

Your teacher had super hearing, Entrapta; take pity on him.

"Hi yes hello!" Entrapta said, saluting Miguel with her hair. "Is there any limit on the kinds of science we can do?"

You know...practically or maybe ethically?

Ethically might not be the worst limit, just saying.

"Yes," Miguel answered immediately. He held up a finger and paused. "I'm not sure what they are yet, but there are definitely limits. Let's start with nothing that's harmful to yourself or anyone else here, okay?"

Pick a sciency thing to do and show us who you are!

Entrapta had decided to modify her computer to that it had speaking functionality. Which, in turn, necessitated that she add some kind of speaker to it so that the sounds it made could be broadcast. She was actually fairly annoyed when science time was interrupted by talking time.

"I'm Princess Entrapta of Dryl!" she announced, still poking at her computer with tiny little tools that she's pulled out from her toolkit. "Or rather..."

She started poking at her computer. "I-AM-PRIN-CESS-EN-TRAP-TA-OF-DRYL," the computer intoned. She'd basically created a Speak and Spell on her computer, yes. "I-AM-FROM-DRYL-ON-ETH-ER-I-A. I-LIKE-SCI-ENCE-AND-RO-BOTS-AND-FIRST-ONES-TECH."

"Nice one!" Miguel grinned. That was the spirit! "Science and robots we can do. What's first ones tech?"

"The first settlers of Etheria!" Entrapta said. "The First Ones. Advanced technology left behind by a lost civilization. Makes our modern innovations look like children's toys. The foundations of my research!"

"In a place like this, you'll probably find similar things, maybe even something more advanced, and probably some things you'd never even thought of," Miguel said. "I hope you have fun."

He's here! And in a reasonably good mood.
