BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday morning

"Portalocity lounge," Mae read aloud, and heaved a sigh of relief. "Finally. First time I ever travel alone and I get lost in the stupid airport." She walked into the lounge, looked around, and hopped up onto the bench, her duffel bag tucked under her feet. There was plenty of room, since her legs were too short to reach the ground. "Of course, it's bigger than, like, all of Possum Springs put together, so I guess that can't be too surprising. Good thing Mom and Dad insisted I take the early bus."

She tapped her heels on her duffel bag and eyed the door. "And now I'm talking to myself. Good job, Mae. Perfect first impression." She made her eyes comically wide and waved to an imaginary audience. "HeY, I'M mAe, i'M TOtallY NOrmAl, niCE To MEeT yoU." She frowned and tapped her feet harder. "Good job, Killer."

Another glance around the lounge. There wasn't a lot to look at yet.

"I wish I had a video game."

[NEWBIE SHUTTLE TIME! Possibly slightly early, but I want a distraction]

While Kanan was busy talking to other people, Entrapta had wandered over to the front of the bus and opened the hood, examining the interior. "Faaaaascinating," she murmured, hair already poking and prodding at various bits.

At least she hadn't started removing things? She was still at the 'examination' stage!

That was probably for the best, since this bus was on loan, dammit.

"One in every group of new students, huh?"

Hello, Entrapta. The bus driver couldn't help but notice that the hood was up, here.

"Oooh, is this your vehicle?" Entrapta asked, her head popping up. "You can help me take it apart!"

She'd put it back together! ....Probably!

... Kanan was never telling this one about his ship.

"Actually," he replied, grimacing faintly, "it's school property, and we're going to need it in order to get to where we're actually going. But once we get there, whatever you do with it is your business."

Skywalker was going to kill him.

"Soooo, if you can hold off on disassembling the bus at least until we make it to the island, I'd appreciate that."

"School?" Entrapta repeated. "Island?"

Kanan paused for a long moment.

"Are you asking what those things are, or...?"

Look, sometimes you couldn't be too sure.

"Which school?" Entrapta asked. "What island?"

She'd been told she was going to a school and even that it was on an island. But as none of that was important to her work, she'd mostly forgotten about it.

"The school is called Fandom," Kanan offered. "And the island is... also called Fandom."

A beat.

"So, that's convenient, I suppose."

"Right, right, that's why I'm here," Entrapta said, going back to poking at the engine. "To learn new things."

And then, fainter, as she stuck her head further into the vehicle, "...This is new. Faaascinating."

And then a slight zorch as she learned why we don't play with spark plugs.

Kanan sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Please get out of there and get into the bus."

He wasn't pushing the damn thing all the way to the island, kid.

Every shuttle ride was a new and different kind of joy, wasn't it?

Entrapta shut the hood of the shuttle, looking none the worse for wear for her little jolt, though her hair was still a bit...zappy. "I can think of several improvements I can make with that!" she announced. "Like lasers!"

"You'll have to draft those up in a proposal to the dean," Kanan said immediately, because he was not above passing this particular buck off to Skywalker. "I'm sure he can be pretty easily talked into lasers, though. For now..."

He jerked a thumb toward the bus door.

"We have a picnic to get to."

And now he had to clean out the inside of the bus and crack open the hood to make sure everything was accounted for once they got there. Sigh.

At the mention of picnics, Entrapta was willing to scuttle aboard. "Will there be tiny foods?" she asked. "And fizzy drinks?"

Look, she had only brought enough for the trip.

"There will be both of those things," Kanan confirmed, blowing out a thankful breath before stepping onto the bus - sigh, the sequins - and settling into the driver's seat. "There will be a lot of both of those things."

Beacuse this was a Fandom High welcome picnic. He'd never seen them manage otherwise.

Entrapta was looking around. "Well this is very...bright," she said. Dubiously.

Her hair was petting the back of the chair, offering comfort.

To the bus, yes.

The bus probably needed it about half as much as Kanan at this point.

"Yeah, we'll be losing the sequins as soon as we get to the island," he sighed. And then, double-checking to be sure everybody had boarded and was sitting, he shut the doors and started the engine.

He did not intend to allow anybody a single moment to jump off and start poking under the hood again, no.
