“Today is going to be a practical exam,” Anakin said as they entered the Danger Shop which was set up like any strip mall in America, complete with a 7-11, a slightly sketchy looking Subway sandwich shop, and a pan-Asian restaurant boasting both sushi and pad Thai as specials.

And, most importantly, an ATM. "This exercise is 'ripped from the headlines', as they say."

Not many people said that if they weren't on Law and Order, but go ahead, Anakin. "This money machine is supposed to give you twenties as you make your withdrawals," he said. "Instead it will give you hundreds."

Or at least it was supposed to. Anakin had maybe forgotten who his co-teacher was, standing next to him looking very innocent.

Easy to be a saint in paradise and all that. Plus, the disappointment would be good for them.

"Hang on, I think it's jammed," Yang said, totally oblivious as she reached for her bag. "I've got a screwdriver, just give me a moment."

No, she was NOT aware how breaking into an ATM would look bad to outsiders.

"It looks like you're breaking into it," Anakin hissed.

The premise was fairly confusing to Sidon from the get-go, but he figured he understood it well enough. They were supposed to go to the machine, extract some money from it, and then realize it was more money than they should have had, and, if you were Sidon, that meant quickly finding out how to report the error to the people who were in charge of that sort of thing so that it could be remedied.

Except that no money came out, and he tilted his head, frowning.

"Er. It appears as though it is broken," he said, turning toward the teachers with his concern. "Or, rather, broken in a fashion that is quite different than the original intention of the disrepair. I do believe it would be prudent in this case to follow the same steps should I have received too much money as I would when I receive none at all, which would be contacting whoever is in charge of this machine to let them know that it is faulty."

Anakin was getting dangerously close to patting Sidon on his idealistic little head.

Idealistic large-ish head?

"Good idea," Anakin said. "Is there a number you might be able to call written on the machine somewhere?"
