Practical Ethics, Tuesday, November 13, 2018
The teachers' desks at the front of the class were covered in tiny, crying robots. This wasn't at all inspired by the egg babies. Don't be ridiculous! Anakin, as it happened, had a closet full of robot babies for just such a week.
Oh, you lucky, lucky children.
"So the greatest test of your ethics you're likely to face in the real world is raising children," said the woman with absolutely no intention of every having any because she had that much self-awareness.
"Things you consider absolutely sacred to you--how much time a child should spend on a computer, how much sleep you have at night, if feeding someone a vegetable is a crime against humanity--will come into question under the endless shrieking of a small person," Anakin said.
On cue, every robobaby began to wail. Loudly.
Aphra grinned. "And there's the part where even if they speak Basic good luck trying to logic your way out of it. " Not that she'd been that kind of kid or anything.
"These don't talk back yet," Anakin said over the screaming. "They just yell."
Especially at 3 in the morning. Your roommates will love you.
"So good luck figuring out what they want!"
"We've decided each of you is a single parent this week because sometimes the galaxy is a cold, unfeeling place," Anakin said. "Do not put these children in a closet for the week. They have a recording device installed. Relatedly, do not uninstall the recording device."
Aphra hoped they tried to though. She wanted to see how her modifications worked out.
"Come up and pick up your babies," Anakin said. "Aphra has named them all."
A decision they would all soon come to regret.

Re: Come get you tiny terror!
Well, delighted for the most part. He did feel he had some certain concerns that needed to be addressed before he could fully embrace his new role as a temporary father to a small robot child.
"Though I do have a few pressing questions," he said once he finished doting on little Steelquake Hazelburp Gentletoes the Third for a sufficient amount of time. "Two, to be specific. Are they...well....waterproof?" No, don't worry, there will be no baby-drowning, but it would factor into his methodology quite considerably if they weren't. "Which ties into my other worry: is there much risk of...er...electrical shock?"
Mechanical things with programming made him worried! Zora and robots did not seem like the best combination in the world, no.

Re: Come get you tiny terror!
Even Zora hatchlings needed a little help with the finer points of swimming, after all. This news, though, clearly pleased him a great deal, his smile coming easily now that he no longer had the fear of accidental robot-baby death in his heart, and he swept up Steelquake easily in his arms, cradling her and bouncing her slightly after giving her a little tickle under her chin with the gentlest of claws. He cooed at her a little, figuring she just needed to get some screaming out of her system before she settled down, and willing to placate her until she did. "There, there, little Steelquake, don't you worry. We are going to be the best time this week! I believe in you! You'll be the greatest, most wonderful robot baby there is!"
He said that last part very quietly, though, lest the other babies heard and got upset.
Err.
More upset.
Re: Come get you tiny terror!
At least hers had a good name. Once she shorted it. The last name was good?
