"Welcome back!" Miguel was grinning in a way that should probably worry people. "So a friend of mine wanted a carnivorous plant a while back, and I gave her one. They come in all kinds of shapes and forms, though. Sort of like our example today."

He played the clip.

"You probably don't want to go for anything that big or murderous," he pointed out. "But there are all colors and varieties of plants that eat animals, so see what you can come up with!"

It wasn't going to leave this room, people. Just in case.

Whelp.

Norman was going to be humming that the whole time he tried to make a killer plant, now.

....plants.

Okay, now this was something Astrid was interested in. This was something Astrid felt bad about being interested in, really, but she couldn't help herself. She kept a deadly plant beside her bed, knew what plants could do to a person even without being carnivorous, based on some of the simplest and most basic sciences out there, good old nature and biology, nothing mired in confusing tech or physics...

She shouldn't be excited. She really shouldn't. Especially since she was sure next Tuesday would somehow reflect whatever she did in class today, because that was just how this place went. But she was, so help her, she couldn't not be.

And this was art, too, in a way, as Astrid threw herself deeply into trying to find a balance between the most basic structures of carnivorous plants...the obvious maw of a flytrap, the graceful and functional curves of a pitcher plant, the well-placed spines and grooves of a cactus...with the alluring lie of poisonous flowers: the blinding star of the calotropis, the intoxicating aroma of the lantana, the flirtatious little bells of the lily of the valley.

And, of course, the pale and wispy charm of the soft, unassuming oleander.

"A hybrid," Astrid explained. "I know the fly traps look more impressive, but I like the mechanics of a pitcher plant better. But also cloak it, in something pretty, but poisonous, like oleander, makes if more effective toward different things."
