Creature Languages, 3/27, Period 3

Dream appears preoccupied as he hands a quiz to each student upon their entrance to class.

The quiz is ten questions on Raven and Parseltongue, mostly translations.

When most of the quizzes are in, he starts a video.

"I'm sorry for missing class last week. I...well...um..."

He held his hands up and extended his claws. "I grew these."

Dream gave the claws a cursory inspection.

"I see," he said, then turned his gaze back to Victor's face. "Do you believe they are permanent?"

He nodded. "They're a secondary mutation. On Thursday morning, I woke up in a thick layer of my own skin, kinda like how a snake sheds, except it kept me from breathing. I tried to tear through it, but couldn't until these things exploded from my fingers and toes and I was able to claw my way out. Unfortunately, I kinda clawed me and my boyfriend as well."

He pushed down the guilt he felt with that last part. No one was blaming him for that, right?

Dream nodded. "Unusual," he said. Then: "Let me know if this affects your classwork in any way in the future."

"Hopefully not. I just wanted to know what Walter and I could do to make up the class we missed. Pippi's been helping us learn parseltongue, but I'm still not that great at it yet."
