Flight and Flying, Tuesday, May 31st

"Today we're going to ride on speeder bikes, which are like motorcycles, except that they can go up to 400 kilometers an hour and can fly, and are therefore much, much better," Anakin said. He pointed to the right hand simulation. "This one has been set up for target practice if you are comfortable with such an exercise. In this simulation, you will find yourself on a forest moon. In the left hand one, you're in a planet-wide city that makes the worst Los Angeles traffic look like a day at the beach."

He smiled. "Try not to crash and die."

Very helpful, Anakin.

Listen. Bobby might have felt cocky enough to try the advanced route, if he were not also seriously sleep-deprived thanks to a certain singing fish.

Which was currently doing a Captain America impression back in his room, in the sense that it was frozen in a block of ice.

(The ice didn't totally muffle the sound, but it did make it somewhat more tolerable)

ANYWAY, he was doing this thing, and definitely only almost crashed once. Really.

Sabine knew how to use one of these, though she wasn't super experienced. And while she kind of wanted to try Coriscant, she hadn't been able to blow up anything substantial lately and was getting twitchy, so shooting practice it was!

Sorry, anyone who ride with her.

"Want to team up for this?" Breq asked. She didn't know Sabine, but from what she'd seen, they might have similar ideas about how to do this.

"I'm going to blow absolutely everything up," Sabine warned. "If you're good with that..."

"Of course," Breq said, expressionless. "Why should I be? That's part of the exercise, isn't it?"

If you wanted to, at least.

She might not know how many things Sabine intended to hit. "All right, then hop on," she said, getting on herself.

Breq had been a troop carrier. She could deal with people wanting to hit things. She actually found it a good way to let off steam herself. Taking a seat behind Sabine, she said:

"Let's blow up some things then."

As soon as Breq was safely on, Sabine was taking off like a shot, breezing thriighbtrees faster than she probably should. "I'm a big fan of this," she decided.

Yang wasn't just good with a bike, Yang was good with a bike. And now she really resented needing to leave hers parked at the Causeway.

"All aboard the Xiao Long Express," she yelled, starting up the speeder. "It'll be the ride of your life!"

No, seriously. Unless you love adrenaline and/or subscribe to 'live fast die young,' do not get on a motorcycle with Yang Xiao Long.

"Say no more," Peebee yelled, and basically cannonballed onto the back of the speeder bike.

This would go well.

IT WAS GOING TO GO GREAT.

Yang quickly yanked her hair into a low ponytail to keep it out of Peebee's face, and revved the engine. "Hold on to your crests!" she hollered cheerfully, and the bike was peeling away from the pack and right into the heart of the forest, following the targets in case Peebee wanted to do some target practice.

Re: Fly in the forest [advanced]

[personal profile] onefootoutthedoor 2018-05-31 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, absolutely. It was just a good thing that Peebee didn't have the focus to do target practice and put up a biotic field to make the speeder bike lighter at the same time. She missed about as many targets as she hit as it was.

"So how fast is this thing supposed to go," she yelled, "and how much faster than that can it really go?"

Important questions here!
misshapen_spark: (woo hoo!)

"Well..." Yang took a tight pin-turn, turning them almost sideways for a moment but not letting up on the speed. They were right-side-up again in a flash, and there was a clear-ish path ahead...

"We're gonna find out!" And Yang stepped on the gas, putting the peddle to the (metaphorical) floor.

Why try things in degrees, when you have a sim where you can do stupid-ass shit at will?

[personal profile] onefootoutthedoor 2018-05-31 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
See, Yang, this was why Peebee liked you. In case the really loud whoop at the pin-turn wasn't a clue.

"Go go go go go!" She fired off a quick shot at a target as they passed, not seeming to care whether she actually hit it.
misshapen_spark: (this is FUN!)

What, it wasn't for her stunning good looks?

Yang spun them into some tight figure-eights through the trees, narrowly zipping through some large boulders in a stream, and skipping them along a rocky outcropping. "OH MY GOD, I WANT ONE!" she yelled over the roar of the engine and the wind. "--AND I WANT TO TAKE IT APART AND MAKE IT FASTER."

She did all the work on her own bike, after all.

That too, but come on, Yang, give Peebee a little credit for not being shallow!

"LET'S DO IT," she yelled back, which for the record took a lot of effort to make even a little bit audible. "HOW HARD CAN IT REALLY BE?"

No, Peebee.
