Today's beautiful weather was made for sitting outside and doing craft projects, which was good, because that's what you were doing. A number of tables were set up around the park, each filled with macrame and micro macrame--which was a thing Anakin had learned this week-- supplies: cording of various colors, beads, crystals, and other bits of shiny things (though the supplies were getting depleted as the squirrels kept stealing them), and a few macrame patterns mostly for dresses and other clothing-like items.

Even more worryingly, there was a runway set out down the middle of the area, along with two chairs set aside for judges.

"Right!" Anakin said, yelling into his bullhorn again. "Today you will be working in teams under a one-hour time limit to create a piece of macrame fashionwear. It does not have to be very large--it's not going to be for any of you to wear. The dimensions are provided at your stations, and the models will be arriving shortly."

Anyone have a bad feeling about that? Good.

"This week's winners will win the highly coveted Billy the Bass singing fish--" he glanced around. "Where'd that kriffing thing get off to?" He raised his hand and the fish, propelled by its own power and shrieking Sabatoge flew in from...somewhere.

"...that was odd." He glared at the assembled crowd. "Please refrain from stealing the fish until after the winner is determined this week. Listen carefully for your name and then join your team. You will have an hour to learn how to macrame and then your models will arrive and parade down the catwalk. The winners will be determined by our fashion experts Sparkle and Brooke. Your teams are as follows:

And a giant glowing timer that Anakin had gotten from...somewhere... began ticking down the hour.

"We'll have to get it out of the jacket," Rey pointed out. "What's the worst that happens? You hallucinate for a while?"

Jono buried his face in his hand.

//I once put on a fake beard and spent the better part of an afternoon calling myself Bjorn.//

Or something equally Scandinavian. It had been a while and a couple manufactured lifetimes since then.

"I'm fast," Kathy said weakly, already kind of hating herself for volunteering but here she was anyway. "I might have less of a chance of getting bitten."

And it wasn't like her parents were here to see her strutting around on stage like last time.

"If you're sure..."

This was actually saving Rey from sucking it up and volunteering and finding out if a gremlin might mistake her for a Skywalker.

//You're faster'n me, I won't argue. Last thing anybody needs is me, hallucinating.//

No. Really. He was made of fire.

Fire bad.

Well, there went her last hope of someone else stepping in and saving her from her own stupidity.

"Okay," she said, uneasy. "So, I'll, uhh...grab it, maybe? And then someone drops it over its head? And then I'll try to pull it down?"

This couldn't be any worse than trying to dress a squalling baby, right? Except for how the gremlin was bigger, heavier, and liked to bite.

"That is a bad plan but I think we're doing it anyway," Rey said, grabbing the... thing they made.

At least she was helping with the stupidity!

...Did that make it better?

//I think you might have it upside-down,// Jono offered. Helpfully.

It was hard to tell, since it was basically just a bunch of dangling rope.

"...Maybe we should go and add a few more straps?" Kathy suggested, definitely because she cared about winning and certainly not to avoid chasing down a gremlin. That was preposterous.

"The last thing this needs is more straps," Rey pointed out, waving it a little as she turned it over. And frowned. "Maybe it's sideways?

//How do we know which hole is for the head?// Jono was making his way over, too, reaching to try to pick through all the dangling bits. //I suppose just so long as it's on the gremlin...//

"Maybe we should have just stuck with the shawl thing we had going for a little while," Kathy said, eyeing the finished result critically. "I am not chasing after that gremlin until we are one hundred percent ready to put this thing on it."

"I will make it work, I promise," Rey assured her, turning the monstrosity and looking confident that it was right now.

//Looks about as right as it's ever going to look, I think,// Jono mused, tilting his head at it, and then glancing at the gremlin. //If it'd make you feel better, I could go at it from the front. Get its attention while you come up behind?//

Thereby making himself useful instead of standing around delivering commentary while two younger ladies tackle a venomous, angry gremlin.

"Okay, that sounds good," Kathy said. "I guess if we're all ready?"

She glanced at the other two. They looked ready and Kathy wasn't going to get this over with by just standing here.

"I'm going to make a quick loop around to pick up speed," she said. "Mr. Starsmore, if you wanna start distracting it when I'm about...there?"

She pointed at a section that looked awfully far away. "And then once I've gotten it, Rey, do your thing."

And maybe it would somehow all work out okay, with nobody getting bit.
