Creative Weaponry; First Period, Tuesday [02/20].

If Amaya had gotten to know the students in her class as well as she thought, she knew they'd be pretty excited to walk into the Danger Shop that week to find actual weapons waiting for them. Nothing fancy, pretty basic stuff, quarterstaffs and clubs, short swords and daggers, slings and darts. There were also plenty of tools, as well. Hammers, metal cutters, wrenches, screwdrivers, even a blow torch if someone wanted to get really involved. And supplies. Woods, pieces of metal, lots of nails, rope, so on. Of course, there was also large spinning wheel like you'd find on a game show and three doors in the wall behind it, so she also assumed they were smart enough to deduce that there'd be a catch.

"Today I thought I'd throw something a little different at you," Amaya said with a grin, being a little too proud of her own work this week. "As you can see, I'm providing you with actual weapons and tools this week. Well, they're fake, because of..." She gestured her hand around the danger shop, "but they're actual fake weapons. You get what I mean. Please, please, please, if you want to use something, but don't really know how, ask and I will show you. Don't go rushing into it like an idiot, I don't want to be held responsible for actual fake injuries. So you have your weapons, you have your tools, you have..."

And she gestured proudly to the wheel. "Your random item. Take turns stepping up to the wheel, give it a spin, and it'll give you the random item that must be incorporated into your weapon somehow. Preferably in a significant way. Once your weapon is ready, then you'll go up to one of these doors. A monster awaits behind these doors, and there's another aspect. You don't know what the monster will be until after you've opened the door. So not only do you have to think about your item and how to incorporate it, but you also have to think about versatility. Won't you just feel silly working so hard on a perfect weapon for an aerial foe, only to get yourself a ground-dwelling giant worm! Of course, your ability to adapt your weapons in a moment's notice is an important part of creative weaponry, too."

She grinned a little, feeling pretty confident that, no matter what she threw at them, they'd succeed just as they had so far (for the most part). "And you know I'm here if you have any questions or need anything, so someone hop on up, give the wheel a spin, and let's get to work!"

"Are we limited to only one weapon?" Uma asked, not bothering to raise her hand. "Or can we grab a bunch to use?"

She already had a few ideas.

"But what if I wanna make them all into one?" Uma asked. "I end up with one weapon, just made from bits of other ones."

"Cool," Uma said with a nod.

"...I do like an arsenal, though," she admitted a minute later.

Seriously?

Yang grabbed a plain, basic mace, some metal cutters, and the blow torch. She cut apart the nose and welded the shards on to the mace, inserting tiny spikes between the larger ridges. She might not be as much of a master at building weapons as her sister or uncle, but Yang wasn't a total slouch. She'd built her Ember Celica, after all.

Tip spent a little while just kind of staring at her item. What . . . what purpose didn't it serve in the real world? And what the hell was she supposed to do with it here? It wasn't like wax was exactly a durable material.

She got one of the quarterstaves and stuck the hand on the end of it, reshaping the wrist section so that it closed tightly to the stick. And now she had a wax hand on a stick. Alright. Her first instinct was to stick a sword in the hand but that seemed impractical in the extreme. Instead she grabbed some of the shot for the slings, loaded it into the hand's palm, and proceeded to swing the quarterstaff around like a lacross stick before launching the shot at a wall.

She would apologize to her classmates later. Her aim was . . . not great.

Oh! Uma'd gotten something easy. Paper was versatile as hell.

The first thing she did was check the maps to see if any of them seemed legitimate. Because class was way less important than treasure. Once she'd ascertained they were all fakes, she started to plan. At first, she'd thought of making a shiv and attaching it to a spear, but that took too long to dry and ready. So instead, she grabbed a quarterstaff and as many knives as there were treasure maps.

The blades all got pulled out of their handles and set aside. And then Uma started folding paper. One single, flat sheet of paper was useless for weapons. One single folded sheet of paper was a goddamn miracle. She folded the paper in half six times, four times lengthwise and twice width, and then shoved a knife blade into the middle of it. It took a lot of maneuvering and wiggling, but it eventually pierced all six folds. Metal cutters got rid of any of the extra bits that stuck out of the bottom fold of paper. Then she grabbed a hammer and the longest nails she could find and hammered the paper onto the quarterstaff, one nail on either side of the knife blade. (For the remainder of the blades, she'd fold, nail one side, push the blade through, nail the other, but it was a work in progress.)

The last blade, she attached to the top of staff itself, giving it a piercing tip. In the end, it almost looked like an elongated nailbat, but Uma was satisfied with it.

. . . okay, so Peebee spent about ten minutes just wearing the wig for her own amusement while she got together the rest of the materials she needed for her plan.

Which involved fastening the wig between a long wooden pole and the shortsword she planned to fasten to the end of it (with welded metal bands, thank you, she just wanted to play with the blowtorch) to form a sort of glaive.

But a glaive you could also use to tickle people with. Or just aggressively hairflip at them while you stabbed them, to add insult to (literal) injury.

With a grin that didn't promise anything nice for whatever was on the other side, Uma grabbed her quarterstaff and strode to the first door.

The first skill you learned on the Isle was the valuable art of dodging--whether it was an angry cuff from an adult, an ambush, something flung or, for Uma anyway, her mother's tentacles, you learned to not be in the same spot when something came flying at you. She adroitly dodged back to the side, braids flying, and then smacked the boar in the side with her quarterstaff, the knife blades biting deep.

"Can't touch me!" she cried, laughing.
