Sleeping With Your Eyes Open, January 10, 2018, 3rd period

"Right," Anakin said, slapping a huge briefing paper on each student's desk as they arrived. "Another key problem in diplomacy is trying to keep up with all of the studies and briefings and fights via email about your area of expertise. Here's a hint: you never will. So you will need to learn to skim quickly and be able to talk with authority with very little actual knowledge."

Somewhere Obi-Wan was despairing of Anakin's technique.

"To that end, you have ten minutes to read the tome in front of you and then brief the class on this, your new area of expertise." He smiled. "And pray that no one in the room has more actual expertise than you do."

"Who wants to know about snail racing?"

Ahsoka didn't look like she was judging Anakin's choice of topics, but she was, she so, so was.

"I'm relatively certain I got the cutest topic to become a specialist in," Norman mused. "The mighty... chinchilla."

He'd never really had a pet of his own, and his only real friend back home was into dogs more than anything, but he could appreciate being made to study up on pudgy rodents for the sake of class.

This was way less ambushy than he'd been fearing.

"Aw yeah, trampolining. The fine art of contorting yourself into insane shapes while jumping in the air, and actually needing to stick the landing without moving," Yang began sagely. "For a sport that's all about jumping on stuff, it's got a ton of rules, which kinda defeats the fun of jumping on things."

Yang had OPINIONS. Congratulations, class, you were about to hear her Opinions.

"Who wants to know all about how you can totally file a lawsuit against actual stuff and not just people?"

Bobby hoped nobody, personally, because he was still kind of confused by the whole thing.

"Naaah, they're tiny," Norman replied, easily. "Only about the size of a grapefruit. Their strength lies in numbers. They're a very social animal."

With not much in the way of actual might.

Ugh, Anakin. Why. The only reason you weren't getting a death glare right now was that even Robert Drake was self-aware enough not to do that to a teacher.

Unless that teacher was himself, of course.

"Very easily, apparently."

"They do, actually," Norman confirmed, breaking into a little grin. The idea that a group of something so tiny could be called a 'herd' had amused him greatly when he'd read it. He would have thought there would be some cute funny name for it, like a 'giggle,' or a 'snuggle.'

A snuggle of chinchillas. It would've been great.

"Herds, high up in the mountains of South America."

"There's only really, like, four 'accepted' positions, which is not conducive to creativity," Yang said immediately. "--and you can only bounce a certain number of times, which, kinda defeats the purpose of a sport about jumping."
