Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Over on this part of the school lawn... yeah, it was still chilly. Stupid winter, doing its winter thing. But there were plenty of chairs and tables for people watching, feasting on warm foods and drinks, and generally attempting to meet the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

It was all right. It wasn't like Aloy had the patience for manners either.

She looked up, eyebrow raised. "A way out," she said dryly. "Have you seen one?"

"We're on an island," Uma pointed out, just as dryly. "One that doesn't have magic acting as a barrier around the whole thing. So, yeah, I see a bunch."

Ways out. A way home might be a different story.

Aloy rolled her eyes. "That won't get me home," she said. "This entire world is the place I'm trying to get out of."

Uma rolled her eyes right back. "Yeah, you missed saying that up front," she pointed out. "My big sister said something about portals?"

"They don't go where I come from," Aloy said. "Not on any kind of useful schedule, anyway."

"How do you even check for something like that?" Uma asked. You know, for no reason.

"You call Portalocity and yell at them for an hour?" Aloy offered. "They're very helpful."

Yes, that was sarcasm.

"Now all I need to know is what a Portalocity is," Uma said, "and I'm all set."

She would, however, end up calling them to yell for an hour once she was a little more established.

"They're the people who arrange the portals," Aloy clarified. "Or so they say, anyhow."

"I thought they were just magic doors?" Uma said. "People control them?"

Immediately the wheels in her head started turning. With access to magic doors whenever she wanted, she didn't even need Fairy Godmother's wand. People could travel back and forth from the Isle whenever they wanted!

"People control them," Aloy confirmed dryly. "If you believe the pamphlets. I'm wondering just how well they do if they can't make a door to my home world."

"Maybe only the most powerful wizards can open doors," Uma theorized. "And there's not enough profit in it for them to spend the time to open one for you?"

Did you have any money, Aloy? Like bottle caps or bits of metal or other widely accepted and useful bits of currency. Bitcoin, maybe?
