Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Over on this part of the school lawn... yeah, it was still chilly. Stupid winter, doing its winter thing. But there were plenty of chairs and tables for people watching, feasting on warm foods and drinks, and generally attempting to meet the new folks!

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Sidon wasn't known as a great warrior and hunter for no good reason. He felt eyes on him, and in more than just the passing surprised way that he'd gotten quite used to since coming here. His back straightened, broad shoulders squaring, and he looked around to see if he could find the source for this sensation.

He was used to agog looks, it was true, but something about this young woman's stare has...something else in it, he could tell. His head tilted and he lifted a hand, then, unable to help himself, flashed her a bright, toothy smile, the one that he never really realized looked more like he wanted to eat someone more than than merely make friends with them.

"Salutations and greetings, my friend!" At least his cheery tone should chase away the unintended viciousness of his smile. "Pardon me if I am incorrect, but you are one of the new students just arrived for the coming semester, are you not?"

The viciousness had been familiar. It was the unexpected cheer that Uma didn't trust.

"Yeah," she said shortly, still looking him up (and up and up--look, she was a very short 5'3 and felt it next to him) and down. "Uma. Daughter of the sea-witch, Ursula."

Did...did that mean anything to him?

And get ready for more cheer, Uma. Lots of it.

"Well, then, Uma, Daughter of sea-witch Ursula," Sidon said, getting up a little so that he could more properly perform his introduction, "it is an absolute delight to meet you! I am Sidon!" Here it comes! The pump of his fist! The bright, shiny smile! The perfectly placed sparkle at the very end of his fangs. "The Zora Prince! Son of Zora king, Dorephan! I hope you're enjoying your arrival so far!"

"It's weird as hell," Uma said bluntly. It would figure the one time she'd hoped that her mother's name would ring a bell would be the one time it didn't. "I wasn't expecting to show up here. I fell asleep on some driftwood and woke up on the beach over there."

She pointed in the general direction of the beach she'd washed up on. "And...you? Did the ocean bring you here, too?"

"Oh," Sidon's voice went soft and wistful, his eyes sparkling distantly as he looked toward the sea, "I wish. I came here on the shuttle bus." And it had been most uncomfortable. He turned his smile toward Uma. "What an exciting adventure that must me, even if it is, as you so succinctly put it, weird as hell. It is strange, this place, but that makes it all the more interesting, I find. And at least the people are friendly. You probably just as easily could have washed up on the shore of a more hostile beach, rife with bokoblins and lizalfos ready to slice in twain and eat you up!"

Yeah, but that would have at least been explicable. All this cheer and friendliness and sharing food was most certainly not.

"I don't know what those things are," she said, mostly just to buy her some time to put away her disappointment.

It would be fast. She was used to it.
