Ethics, Monday

"Stop it," Anakin said firmly to the mistletoe that had been chasing him into the classroom. "I'm not kissing anyone."

The mistletoe hissed at him, then began pelting him with berries. Anakin sighed heavily. "Right. Should we talk about the ethics of harassment?"

"I'm not entirely sure there's anything ethical about harassment at all," Obi-Wan muttered, side-eyeing the mistletoe.

"Very true, Master Kenobi who I will not kiss," Anakin said, glaring at the mistetoe, which was looking decidedly sulky for a plant right now. "There is, of course, a spectrum of harassment from the unacceptable to the completely illegal to the what-is-wrong-with-you-no-seriously."

"But it is important to know that there is a spectrum," Obi-Wan continued, "and that all things on it constitute harassment and should be frowned upon. That one act is a less horrendous one than another should not stop you from condemning it. An unwanted kiss or touch is still a violation of someone else's body."

"Enthusiastic and clear consent," Anakin said, nodding. "None of this 'he was signalling with his eyes' or 'everyone knew she likes it'. Even if you're 99 percent sure, check."

"It is not a matter of 'no means no', though that is also true," Obi-Wan filled in smoothly. "Get a 'yes' before you continue." A pause. "This is not up for debate, but we are curious as to your thoughts on the matter from your own perspective - do you worry about harassment? What are your feelings when it comes up in the news?"

"Is it something your culture even thinks about?" Anakin added. "It seems to be coming as quite a revelation to the slightly more oblivious humans on this planet recently."

"Discuss," Obi-Wan said. "You don't have to speak up if it makes you uncomfortable, of course. But I believe it's important to linger on this."

Suuuuper-enlightened! Just ask him about the priesthood!

...Or maybe don't.

Hyacinthe shrugged, but nodded. "The main law that Blessed Elua laid down was Love as thou wilt," he explained. "To force another is in direct violation of that law, 'tis why 'tis heresy. I don't understand how other countries can do otherwise."
