Can a journalist reveal a source of information after guaranteeing confidentiality if the source proves to be unreliable?

"Well, they certainly can," said Janet. "Whether or not they should is another story entirely. They probably oughtn't, especially if the source is likely to be put in danger due to the revelation."

Chloe frowns softly. "No, I don't think so. Revealing a source, even if it's a bad one, totally ruins your credibility, and will stop people from wanting to reveal things to you later."
