Today the class had a huge strip of tape exactly down the middle of the room. "By this time in the semester, if you're having issues with a roommate, they might be getting near the boiling point," Anakin said a little wryly. "So before you divide the room in half and forbid the other person from invading, let's discuss some productive ways of de-escalating a conflict."

"Disputes between roommates are often small," Obi-Wan said. "They simply escalate into grander things, including because many of you may not have shared a room, or shared a room in a different way, before coming here. That makes it especially important to come up with room guidelines as soon as possible - that way, both parties have a fair agreement to fall back on."

Anakin nodded, grinning at Ahsoka. "The same things would apply to close quarters in a ship, too. Music choices, bringing smelly food into a room, how many times someone can hit the snooze button before you're allowed to beat them unconscious with the clock--"

That last one isn't a thing, Anakin.

Obi-Wan coughed. "So preparation is step one," he said. "If that fails, approaching a confrontation with reason is step two."

"Smacking them with a clock is a last resort," Anakin said, smiling slightly. "Examples of things that can drive a living situation into untenable areas can include sleep schedules, noise levels, visitors..."

"Try to find some common ground," Obi-Wan suggested lightly. "What you appreciate about each other's conduct, perhaps. Or appeal to each others'... differing senses of cleanliness. Perhaps there's a compromise to be arranged, for instance, if your roommate frequently has... guests over."

Before you were wielding clocks like weapons, even! "You can either talk among yourselves or use me as a roommate substitute," Anakin said, smiling evilly. "I'll be very reasonable."

There was a zero percent chance he would be reasonable.

"Please draw a card of potential disputes from the box if you wish to practice," Obi-Wan said. He was perfectly reasonable.

And Sidon would be looking quite uncomfortable through the whole lecture, trying to just focus on what the instructors were saying and not trying to think about how his roommate had disliked him from the very get-go. Not that Paris had been the only thing making dormitory life so strange and awkward for Sidon, but it definitely caused the lecture to hit quite a bit close to home.
