Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The fall semester was about to get into full swing, but summer wasn't about to let go of the island just yet. The sun was out, the temperature was holding steady at a comfortable 80F/27C, and most importantly, the tables were beglittered.

Speaking of tables, there were of course the ones that were filled with a vast array of food and drink, and also the ones with nametags and lists to facilitate the meeting of new roommates and siblings.

There was room to sit, room to sprawl, room to walk around and mingle... and it was a big lawn, so if you needed to get away from the crowd for a bit, room for that too.


[OCD Up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Anakin nodded with a slightly friendly smile. "The smart ones bring plastic containers to eat the leftovers for a few days afterwards. There's just soooo much sugar. I'm Anakin Skywalker."

"Liam Kincaid," he introduced himself. "Wish I'd thought of that," he added. "I'm really not much of a cook." At least the island had an absurd number of restaurants for such a small population.

"Fortunately, around here you can survive quite happily on takeout," Anakin said. "What brings you to our weird little island, Liam?"

"Well, I'd been looking for- a change of pace, I suppose. Five minutes after landing my shuttle, they tell me I'm supposed to be the new sheriff," he grinned and shook his head. "Not quite what I was expecting, but it certainly qualifies as a change of pace, I guess."

Anakin laughed. "Yeah, the Stormtroopers certainly are...something."

"I've worked with worse," Liam had to admit. "But the helmets are hard to get used to."

"It's weird when they take 'em off, too," Anakin said. "They all look the same, aside from the tattoos and haircuts."

Of all the things Liam had expected to be under the helmets, that... hadn't been it.

"Seriously?" He frowned. "Are they some kind of Bio-Surrogates?"

"Is that another way of saying clones?" Anakin asked.

"It's pretty close, yeah," Liam said, after thinking about it for a moment. "Constructs all based on the same genetic template."

"Then yes, they're the same idea," Anakin said. "It was part of an army in my home galaxy."

Beat.

"It was probably not the best idea ever."

"Ugh," Liam made a face. "Of course they were." At least these guys seemed less outright murdery than some of the Bio-Surrogates he'd dealt with before.

"... Home galaxy?" So far, he'd met plenty of people from alternate Earths, but no-one from another planet yet, let alone another galaxy.
