Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I
The fall semester was about to get into full swing, but summer wasn't about to let go of the island just yet. The sun was out, the temperature was holding steady at a comfortable 80F/27C, and most importantly, the tables were beglittered.
Speaking of tables, there were of course the ones that were filled with a vast array of food and drink, and also the ones with nametags and lists to facilitate the meeting of new roommates and siblings.
There was room to sit, room to sprawl, room to walk around and mingle... and it was a big lawn, so if you needed to get away from the crowd for a bit, room for that too.
[OCD Up! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

The nice thing about robotic eyes, Summer was realizing, was that she could spot a nametag from a mile away, so she knew exactly who she was going for when she wandered into the area with newbies before they dispersed further into the crowd and threw out her arms excitedly as her proximity was deemed appropriate for human stranger-to-stranger contact.
"Ohmygod," she gushed, "you're, like, totally Paris, aren't you? I'm Summer." Those hands went to cover her chest with the impression that it was just fluttering so much with excitement. "I'm your Big Sibling, which means if you have any questions, or need anything, like, totally at all, you come to me, and I will totally help you out. Are you doing, like, okay so far?"

"No," she said definitively. "No, I am not dealing with this. I am not dealing with a Valley Girl clearly high on caffeine when I already had to deal with a long-haired bathrobe wearing freak driving a bus and a shark guy."

Summer had no idea what Paris was talking about, so, whatever, she was just going to forge ahead. "Awww, like, total bummer," she said. "You didn't get the same Bus Driving Guy as I did, then! You probably totally got a lame one, because my bus driver, like, totally became one of my best friends here, which isn't weird at all!"
She held up her hands as a sign of surrender or a peace treaty. "Look, like, I know this place can be totally overwhelming, but it's okay! It's great here, you'll get used to it, like, super quick. I mean, there could definitely be more cute boys here, but the ones who are here?" She gave an encouraging thumbs up. "Top notch. Where are you totally coming from? I'm, like, going to assume...." She was new, and though apparently there had been a shark man, she seemed really normal and maybe a little weirded out, so Summer gave it some careful thought before trying, "New England, maybe?"
Yeah, totally had to be it, she had that preppy, 'school is totally serious business so I can get into some Ivy League college and go play some tennis' feel to her that you didn't see much on the west coast. Summer's programming tried really hard not to be too bummed out about that.

So she was still in forge-ahead mode. "Cool," she said. "So, that's, like, a good start. Now, this question may, like, totally seem odd, but is your world currently or has it ever been overthrown by aliens from another planet?"
