"Today," Hannibal said once everybody had arrived, "we are going to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. That is the capital city in a country far to the east of here. The Mongolian people come from a nomadic tradition, and much of their cuisine is meat- and dairy-based. There are also a number of influences from neighboring traditions."

He led them through the portal and onto a fairly ordinary-looking street across from, of all things, a mall. "Our restaurant for the day will be Modern Nomads." There was a coffee shop across from this one, too. At least it wasn't an American chain? "You will find many traditional foods here, from bone soup to noodle dishes. Lamb is a popular meat."

He led them into the restaurant. "They use local meats and ingredients, and also include plenty of greens for those of you who might prefer not to eat so much meat. I'll be getting several of the sharing plates for the table. The local language is Mongolian, but many will also speak some English. Or," he added with a nod to Kaylin, "Chinese."

They were brought to their table, and he gestured for them to be seated. "Please enjoy, and as always, let me know if you have any questions."

"Good afternoon, Summer." Hannibal nodded to her. "How are you enjoying the food today?"

"Hello, Dr. Lecter," Summer said, after quickly dabbing a bit of food from a rogue noodle from the corner of her mouth with a napkin. "It's good! Really good. Though, maybe not as good as other food I've had this week."

What? A little buttkissing never hurt anyone.

Hannibal chuckled. He wasn't at all fooled by the butt-kissing, but he didn't mind it. "Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I trust it was fancy enough," he teased, knowing she probably hadn't had anything quite so fancy before.

Easily the fanciest thing Summer'd ever experienced, except maybe Tammy's wedding, but the dinner had a muuuuuuch happier ending.

"Could have maybe been a little fancier," she said. "Maybe, like, a violinist next time, or a fancy piano."

"My harpsichord is in the music room," Hannibal said. "Had I known you were interested, I could have played for you."

In between serving all the food.

"That's okay," Summer assured him with every ounce of her authority in such matters. "It was all still well above the bar. You outdid yourself, really. Thank you, and I mean that. It was...really cool."

"You're quite welcome," Hannibal said. "I always enjoy the opportunity to cook for others."
