Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 19, Period 1, 03.21.06

[OOC: Yay! Project! A more detailed OOC explanation of the project will be coming late this afternoon. Just work on developing your own theory based on cartoons for now. Groups announced in OCD threads. Metaphor and EC will be posted later as well are finally up. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was at the front of the room as always. Lockheed was givig hopeful glances to Cameron from his normal book shelf.

"Hello, students! Today you will be starting on your big project for the semester. It's actually pretty simple. I'll split you into groups of two. Each group will figure out a theory - any theory - about how Justice works. Take Parker's Darwinist view of Justice, for example (well, don't take it, it's hers). Once you have a theory worked out, you'll be using any of these cartoons documentaries on my desk to showcase the theory."

"Pending Professor Mac's approval which I totally forgot to get beforehand, oops, I'd like to use the Danger Shop to showcase these theories at life size and see if they hold true. Your theories and how they apply to the documentaries are due two weeks from today."

"This project is all about teaming up with someone and compromising on your views of Justice, so get into your groups and get to talking!"

"This weeks metaphor is lightbulbs. And this week's extra credit is to devise a battlecry for your project partner!"

Veronica glanced in the direction that Angel kept looking.

And remembered the radio broadcast the previous night saying that Angel and Logan had had a date.

And remembered how adamant Angel was about not kissing Logan.

She tilted her head. "Is there something you need to tell me?"

Angel kept his face buried. "Would you believe me if I said no?"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Probably not," she admitted, casting a glance of her own in Logan's direction.

"But if it's something you think maybe Logan needs to talk to me about, I'll totally understand that."

"I didn't have sex with him!" Angel said, because the lesson to clear that up right out of the gate had finally sunk in.

"Uh, well, that's good to hear," Veronica said. "Also not what I was thinking."

"Oh."

It might have been possible for Angel to turn redder but... it'd be difficult.

He grabbed his pen and paper. "So... justice. Justice. Justicey. Boy howdy."

Veronica leaned forward.

"Angel? Is there something weird going on with you and Logan? Did you guys decide to... practice for the boykissy thing and not tell me?" she asked quietly.

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
"No sex, no boykissy, no hugging, no hand-holding, no looks, no touching, no nothing," Angel said. His hand started to draw something in his notebook. As soon as he saw what it was he slammed the book shut.

"So where I'm from justice tends to be a destiny thing. Yep. All about the destiny far as I'm concerned. You?"

"Justice where I'm from is all about the haves and the have-nots," Veronica said. "If you're rich, you get away with murder. If you're not..."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Angel thought about it. "Maybe some people are destined to be haves?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," she said. "But that doesn't make it fair. Should an elderly grandmother take the fall for a rich skank? Shouldn't justice be fair?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
"Should be a lot of things," Angel said. "Doesn't mean it is."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Veronica sighed. "Do you think there's some way to relate that to cartoons?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Angel tapped his pen on the desk. "Justice is destined to never make sense?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Veronica chuckled. "Kind of like cartoon physics never make sense?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Kinda," Angel said. "I mean you said it yourself, if you were in charge of justice it wouldn't turn out the way it does, right? At least not all the time. So there's some aspect of not making sense to it."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"I like to think I'm fair when it comes to dispensing justice," Veronica said. "Not to say I haven't made some mistakes."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not saying you aren't fair," Angel said. "But that often justice isn't. It doesn't turn out the way we hope."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I guess what I'm trying to say is that even when you try to be fair, it doesn't always work," Veronica said. "Which I realize contradicts what I said earlier, sort of, but it's confusing."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"What's your theory of justice then?" Angel asked.

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm not sure," Veronica admitted. "I think Justice should always strive to be fair and seek the truth. Is that a theory?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I think that's more of an aspiration," Angel said.

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Well what's your theory?"

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] notstakedyet.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Justice is controlled by unseen Powers who make it all pan out however they want and we'll probably never understand it," Angel said. "Oh! Which works well with that cartoon with Bugs drawing Daffy."

Re: Group 4: Angel/Veronica [Class 19]

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, good point," Veronica said. "So you really don't think we can have any effect on our lives? You think it's all pre-destined?"
