Today Aphra had her students gather in a simulated antechamber, where she stood beside a pair of massive carved wooden doors, weathered with age and coved in cobwebs.

"You guys seem to be handling yourselves pretty well so far, with only dying a couple of times a week, so it's time for you to deal with one of the most hazardous things an archaeologist can face." There was a crack of lightning and not particularly distant thunder rumbled as she pushed open the door with a flourish to reveal... a library. "Paperwork!"

Aphra had maybe spent a bit too much time around overly dramatic people ~~like Darth Vader~~ recently.

She lowered her arms. "No, seriously, all the stuff from the last two classes just killed you, paperwork will make you wish you were dead, and it's unavoidable." Man, if Triple Zero ever discovered the torture potential of bureaucracy... "Anyway, there's a list of some forms to fill out, and once the Wookiee certifies them you can have the rest of the period off."

Sounds easy enough, right?

Or look around the library, which was looking rather more ominous than usual, with darkened, labyrinthine stacks, towering piles of paper that looked ready to topple over in a stiff breeze, an astonishing number of cobwebs, and an irate Wookiee who did not look the least bit pleased to be here at the collections desk.

Was Peebee the type of person who would react to that lecture with a gasp and hands clutched over her heart and a loud "Paperwork? Noooooooo!" in a hammy way worthy of a terrible turian action film?

Well, yes.

First you need to find out where the forms (with an exceedingly long and complicated number) are being kept. Only the computers are down which means you'll need to use...

THE CARD CATALOGUE!

Have fun figuring that out, kids.

June had absolutely no idea how to use a card catalogue, so she guessed randomly until she picked out a pattern. She was pretty fast getting to the forms, but it still took way longer than she would have liked.

Shiemi's family shop still used paper, so the only difficulty Shiemi had was actually figuring out the sorting system being used by the library... Oh. Wait. This was actually a lot easier than at home!

When you eventually find where the forms are being kept, you'll discover that there's only five copies of the form, so unless one of the first five people to find them decides to let you photocopy theirs you'll have to wait a good ten minutes for the Wookiee to replenish them.

Yeah, June was not going to let anybody copy her precious form. She hid it under her jacket as she moved through the library, daring anyone to try to snatch it away.

Kaylin was no fool, she watched to see where the others were getting them from then dashed over and grabbed one of the last two left. The things you need to do when you can barely read!

After filling in the ridiculously long forms filled with barely relevant questions, take your completed form to the desk...only to be told you've filled in the wrong form and you need to fill in a completely different one. In triplicate.

Of course, if you don't understand Shyriiwook you might be there a while while the Wookiee tries to get that across.

At the end of the class, Kaylin was still struggling to fill in the first few questions. She had no idea what they were even asking for for most of them.

Even the grumpy Wookie would probably take pity on her. Especially if he realized it meant they'd both be here for the next four or five days attempting to finish this stuff.

After another visit to the card catalogue and the stacks, you all get a copy of the right form, which is even longer than the first one. One copy. Which means you'll need to use the photocopier...which keeps shutting down, and running out of toner, and paper (they're very long forms), and jamming.

It was a good thing that Shiemi was a very patient girl.

What was bad, was that she had no idea what the machine meant by blinking all the lights, convulsing for ten whole seconds, and then shuddering to a deadly silent stop.

She finally gathered enough courage to poke it. "Is it possessed?" Hey. She was an Exorcist, it was a valid question!

Now that you have your three copies of your forms, it's time to fill them in.

Pity ~~Aphra~~ someone keeps ~~deliberately~~ accidentally knocking over piles of papers over and burying yours in monographs on basket-weaving.
