Best Defence [Thurs, Period 2]

Rather than the Danger Shop, Cara had her class meet her in the Salle where she was already waiting for them. Anyone who had the misfortune of arriving late late would also have found a water balloon filled with food dye lobbed straight at their head.

"Since I only recognise one of you, I'm Cara, that's Cassandra, listen to her when I'm not around." Hey, it was more of a greeting than a class usually got. "And I don't care if you signed up for this class or not because you're going to need it before this place is done with you."

She sighed. "Still, it's an easy class this week, since you've hopefully noticed by now this week is all about the introductions, So name, class, if you can fight," Cara said, then smiled with far too many teeth. "Then you get get to try and punch me."

"Jason," he introduced himself. "I'll be a junior in the fall. I don't really have anything in the way of formal experience?" Aside from ten days in the Pit and that showdown with Goldar and Rita, anyway. "But I've gotten in a few fistfights before."

"Better than nothing," Cara said. "Hopefully means you won't have too many bad habits to break."

"Yeah, it'd be nice to have a bit more style than my current method of 'throw a punch and hope for the best'," Jason admitted. He had the advantage of brute force, sure, but learning actual skills now that it wasn't literally a matter of life or death seemed like a good idea.

Cara shrugged fluidly. "Style's less important than making sure that punch is good."

Said the woman in head to toe red leather.

"My name is Jyn," Jyn said. "I'm going to be a junior as well. I have eight years of experience using a blaster and fighting hand to hand."

OK, eight years was a bit of an exaggeration. Saw hadn't put a blaster into her hands immediately after rescuing her, but it was close.

"That give me something to work with." Gee, Cara, sound more enthusiastic, why don't you?

"Peebee, and --" she sighed. "Apparently continuing this trend of being a junior."

Ugh. Doing the same thing as everyone else. Ugh. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.

"No practical experience with fighting, but I got some firearms and hand to hand lessons from the local militia unit at home."

Which she had gotten through some . . . creative persuasion, let's just say that.

At least Cara wasn't going to point out she'd been a junior here too?

"Don't worry, this place will take care of that."

That would just have been salt in the wound, Cara.

"So I've heard," Peebee replied. "Have to say, I'm looking forward to finding out how."

"You say that now, but you didn't have to deal with the giant bunnies last time."

"Hi, I'm June Iparis, I seem to be the only freshman here, and...."

She didn't want to show her hand too early. Not in front of people she didn't know.

"I've messed around with my brother a little, since he's military and I want to be too. Nothing too extreme."

"We don't get a lot of those," Cara confirmed. "But I'm sure you'll be able to keep up."

Mara gave her a wave. "Me again. I'm Mara Jade, it's my last year here, and I've had a few of your classes."

And massive training in assassination, but you don't just announce that.

You let it be a surprise.

"Good to see you again," Cara said with something approaching warmth.

This will end well...

Okay, well, with an invitation like that... look, Jason wasn't stupid. He may have super strength, but Cara obviously knew what she was doing. So if that punch he threw actually landed, well. He'd be surprised.

... He was still gonna do his best to hold back, though. Because on the off chance his fist actually did connect with the shoulder he was aiming for? Well. He'd never actually hit anyone who wasn't 1) a Power Ranger or 2) a rock monster since getting his powers. He didn't know what would happen and wasn't particularly keen to find out.

Bright lad.

Cara easily and neatly side-stepped the punch. "It's a start."

Jyn had a bad feeling about this.

When her turn came, she opted instead to try to talk her away out of it. Keeping her distance, she said, "You're expecting an attack. Why don't you have us jump you outside of class while you're not just standing here waiting for it?"

"Because today isn't about ambushes and that's a very good way for you to get hurt."

She's here and completely approachable.

Even more approachable than Cara! Really!

Cassandra ~~had been here all along, honest~~ was looking super-approachable in the corner.

By which we meant she was glowering.

...

Can Peebee try for a biotic shove instead of a punch? Even if she gets in trouble for it.

She sure can!

I don't think we've ever established how biotic work with Mord'Sith jazz-hands though.

. . . oooh, that's a good question. Hmm. Should probably figure that out first, so never mind for now. :D
