BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

All of Jughead's possessions fit inside a single backpack.

He didn't mind it. At least it was crammed as full as it could be crammed, that was good enough for him. And if he could keep people from figuring out that was the case, even better. This was supposed to be a break from –– everything. Riverdale and all associated drama.

Still, when he arrived in the lounge and checked his phone, he found himself wondering whether Archie even remembered he was moving today.

Whatever.

He dropped his backpack on the floor and leaned against the wall. Good. This seemed like a decent spot to stand in while eyeing everyone else warily.

June noticed that not-so-subtle sussing out and raised an eyebrow at the girl with the enormous pile of junk food.

"Hi," she said, and waited.

"Uh, hi," said Summer, and she almost waited, too, if not for her little internal monologue.

Don't be the bitch, Summer.

"I'm Summer," she added, holding up a bag. "Want a Twizzler?"

It was real food. Well, kind of. It wasn't food in pill form, so this was a really big deal for her, ohmygod.
junebug1500: (oh yeah)

June wasn't sure what a Twizzler was, but it looked like junk food and smelled like sugar, so she saw no reason to turn it down.

"Sure, if you don't mind sharing," she said. "I'm June. You headed to the school too?"

Ha. Summer. June. There was a joke there, but Summer didn't know what it was.

And she did mind, kind of, mostly because she didn't know how scarce real food (...kinda real food) would be at the school. But she was trying to make friends here, so she'd just have to deal. Besides, she was too busy giving off a big, heavy sigh.

"Yeah, sure am. And I'm super excited, can you tell?"

She wasn't super excited. Not at aaaalllllll...

The fact their names were sort of linked crossed June's mind too, but she couldn't come up with a good joke about it either.

"Me too," June said, with a sigh of her own. "Super, super excited. My brother usually knows what he's doing, but I'm not so sure what he was thinking this time."

Misery loved company, so the other girl's sigh definitely made Summer feel a little bit better about her own tragedy. It didn't help that it came with a side serving of family drama that could be potentially relatable, too.

"Your brother?" she asked.

"Mmm-hmm," June said, casually as she could. Sometimes people got weird about the orphan thing, and she was hoping to head that off by being matter-of-fact. "Our parents died when I was small, so it's just me and him. He's a lot older."

Which was probably obvious, but it didn't hurt to say it anyhow.

"Who sent you off?"

Summer winced a little in sympathy. "Oh, I'm sorry. That sucks. And is it now really inconsiderate of me to turn around and say that my parents sent me?"

Because she now felt kind of insensitive. Especially if it meant complaining about something that she had that June didn't and, man, the world sucked sometimes and that wasn't fair.

"No way," June said quickly. "I hardly remember them. Besides, if I got sad anytime somebody else mentioned parents, I'd be sad pretty much all the time."

"Okay, whew," Summer visibly relaxed. "Because, yeah, it was my parents and it's totally lame, and I'm going to be mad at them for a really long time about it."

It actually wouldn't be that long, but Summer was going to try to be stubborn about it.

"I'm only going to be mad if it turns out to be bad," June decided. "Who knows, maybe it'll be okay."

She wasn't sure about that.

"Well, the people seem okay so far," Summer allowed. A little delinquenty and selfish about their copious amounts of weapons, maybe, but still. "So there's that. Anything can be bearable if you've got the right people around."
