BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

All of Jughead's possessions fit inside a single backpack.

He didn't mind it. At least it was crammed as full as it could be crammed, that was good enough for him. And if he could keep people from figuring out that was the case, even better. This was supposed to be a break from –– everything. Riverdale and all associated drama.

Still, when he arrived in the lounge and checked his phone, he found himself wondering whether Archie even remembered he was moving today.

Whatever.

He dropped his backpack on the floor and leaned against the wall. Good. This seemed like a decent spot to stand in while eyeing everyone else warily.

Moodiness was definitely on the agenda for Jyn. She was still pissed at Saw for sending her away to this backwater planet. Her place was with him, fighting the Empire. She didn't buy the whole "for her own safety" excuse.

She dropped the pack filled with her meager possessions and flung herself into a seat to wait, absently lifting one hand to rub the crystal of her mother's necklace. She was a survivor. She'd survive...somehow.

The dark-haired girl standing near Jyn glanced over at her with cool curiosity.

"I hope they don't make us wait much longer," she remarked. "It's such a waste of time."

That Jyn could agree with.

"You're stuck going to this school, too?"

"Oh yes," June agreed bitterly. "I thought college was going just fine, but I got in one tiny bit of trouble, and now my brother decided I have to be around people my own age. Don't ask me what that's supposed to help."

A kindred spirit! That was something nice at least.

"Sounds familiar," Jyn said, matching June's bitter tone. "I was too reckless. It was too dangerous for me. Just excuses to ship me off to here."

"I feel the same way," June said in perfect sympathy. "I know Metias wouldn't do anything he didn't think was good for me, but it's really hard to see how this is going to be good for me."

She gave the girl a more careful look, wondering what dangerous situation she was being shuttled away from. One of the border towns, maybe. "Where are you coming from?"

"Coruscant," Jyn said, which wasn't exactly the truth. There really was no world she could call home now, so Coruscant would do.

"Where are you from?" she asked.

"Los Angeles," June said. "I don't know where Coruscant is, is it a border town?"

"Coruscant's not a town, it's a planet," Jyn said. "It's really far from here."

"Skittle?" Jason offered. Hey. The candy had improved his mood. Maybe it'd help?

Jyn stared at the brightly colored candies. "What is a Skittle?" she asked.

"Candy," Jason explained. "Fruit flavored, but it's really mostly sugar."

Sure, why not? Jyn gingerly took a few of the Skittles and popped them into her mouth.

The burst of flavor was sweeter than anything she'd had in awhile. "They're good," she decided, almost smiling.

Aha! Jason noticed that almost-smile, Jyn. Mission accomplished. More or less.

"Not exactly a balanced breakfast, but no one's around to tell me not to, so."

"You're being sent to this school, too?" Jyn asked, still savoring the sweetness on her tongue. "Do you have any idea what it's like?"

"No idea," Jason shrugged. "Probably lots of rules, bunk inspections, people yelling at you to shape up, that sort of thing?"

Minus the bunk inspections, that didn't sound too different from what she was used to.

"Did you get sent here whether you wanted to or not, too?" she asked.

"Yup." He nodded, rolling his eyes. He was real thrilled about it, couldn't you tell?

Jyn took another Skittle and raised it in salute. "To having no choice," she said.
