BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

All of Jughead's possessions fit inside a single backpack.

He didn't mind it. At least it was crammed as full as it could be crammed, that was good enough for him. And if he could keep people from figuring out that was the case, even better. This was supposed to be a break from –– everything. Riverdale and all associated drama.

Still, when he arrived in the lounge and checked his phone, he found himself wondering whether Archie even remembered he was moving today.

Whatever.

He dropped his backpack on the floor and leaned against the wall. Good. This seemed like a decent spot to stand in while eyeing everyone else warily.

"Wait, so does a fantasy airport have better or worse food?" Jason had to know. For an adult, sword guy seemed to be nice enough, which was kind of making it hard to keep up the whole sullen, disaffected teenager attitude. Damnit.

Magnus rushed in... to your heart. Oh, that's a spin-off. That right there was a spin-off.

"The only time I had food on one was when I slammed a potion and was a lil' wasted," Magnus whispered. His whispers were still pretty loud. "My old roommate made of dank potions. He's in prison now."

None of this sounded good for a potential teacher.

Jason was a (former?) juvenile delinquent who was being sent to Fandom under the auspices of it being a reform school! So whatever.

"Gotta watch out for those dank potions," he said with a nod.

"Right? Lesson number one, don't take potions from Pringles addicted halflings." A beat. "No, that's racist. I'm sorry. You should take potions on a case by case basis."

"In case of... dankness," Jason said slowly. "Makes sense."

Magnus nodded like this was a lesson learned by all. "Just keep it in mind."

"Sure," Jason nodded. "Thanks, uh..." he raised an eyebrow expectantly.

"Magnus Burnsides," he said brightly. If gruffly as that was his base vocal range. "You wouldn't happen to have seen a dwarf with a wooden arm or an elf with an umbrella here, would you?"

"Can't say I have," Jason said with an apologetic shrug. "I'm Jason Scott, by the way," he added, because this was the first adult he'd encountered in a while that didn't already know who he was and have unreasonably high expectations of him.

"Two first names! Cool!" Yeah, that's about all the expectations Magnus had for him.

He even held up a hand for a high-five.

Well, technically the second part of his first name was Lee. Or maybe that was his middle name. Canon was kinda murky on that point. In any case, that was all stuff Magnus didn't know or care about, which was refreshing.

So, yeah, he returned that high five. "So were you, uh. Supposed to meet your friends here, then?" he guessed.

THREE FIRST NAMES.

"I was supposed to find them after I got my new body," Magnus said, looking around for them. Because this was perfectly normal.

"Your... new body..."

Jason. You were connected to the Morphing Grid which could bring people back from the dead. That dubious tone had no right to be there.

"Yeah, I got killed by some liches and ended up in this mannequin body? But the guy at Fantasy Costco was growing a new one... for some reason."

He was pretty casual if put out about the first part, then he was disturbed by the second part.

"That seems awfully convenient," Jason said, sounding a little dubious himself. "So how'd you, uh, come back to life?" Did Magnus also have an Angry Wall Dad urging him to shed his masks before he could wear some superpowered armor?

...he had a Lucretia. Who he was mad at for a number of reasons, half of which he could no longer remember without the other void fish's ichor.

"It was my bad. I never should have given a Warlock some blood or hair."

"You know, I've heard that."

He had not.

Magnus nodded along. "Right up there with those old sayings. A stitch in time saves nine. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Warlocks only want your blood and hair for eldritch abominations."

Jason was just gonna slide his phone out of his pocket, open up the group chat, and type out a quick message:

Jayyyyy: can one of you ask zordon if warlocks are real
Jayyyyy: no reason

"Honestly I've never understood the stitch in time one," Jason said.

"I always pictured it being some exciting doctor thing," Magnus replied, looking a little curious about the phone. Because he only had a stone of far-speech. If that thing could text, shit would pop off.

"Maybe," Jason conceded, mistaking that curious look for the usual Why Are You On Your Phone When I Am Talking To You that he was used to from the adults in his life. "Sorry," he said. "Just... letting my friends know I got here okay." Only kind of a lie!

"Oh, is that like one of those interceptor books?" Magnus asked. Awww, now he was thinking of Ango.

"I... have no idea what that is."

"It could grab messages out of the air with magic to be read." So... yes, a little like texting.

It also saved them from Tom Bodett, spokesperson for Motel 6, ratting them out.

"I guess it's kinda like that, yeah?" Jason shrugged. "Have you seriously never seen a cell phone before?"

Bruh, he arrived in a flash of light and had a big ol' flaming sword and that's the part you're questioning?
