"So... where are the eggheads?"

Dante'd been fighting something out of a Japanese schoolgirl's nightmare out there. He'd been hoping someone was close to a solution. Instead the door was still closed, and... "Eight AM. I stayed up fighting shit until eight AM."

He nudged against the door and found it open. "'Kay then," he said, wandering inside. "Maybe there's some eggheads after all."

At the end of the day, magic and the like just wasn't Peridot's strong point. She was from a generation of Gems who relied more on technology than magic, was made to be a technician herself. So it was probably little wonder that she'd strayed from researching the magical aspects of the island's little weirdnesses and was sticking with what she knew best, today.

When she came across the red binder, she blinked, and then gasped.

"I have information on the machinery of the island," she announced, excited. "Details and maps and figures and--"

She opened the binder victoriously.

It was empty.

"... Okay. SOMEWHERE there are details, maps, and figures for the machinery of the island," she grumbled. "They appear to have gone missing."

Kathy was sprawled sideways in a chair, paging through another one of the boxes from the archives. She flipped Dante off with one hand, not even bothering to take her eyes off the page. "You wanna know how long I've been here?" she asked him.

"A week?" Dante guessed, already halfway on his way out.

"Ha ha," she said, looking up to stick her tongue out at him. "We find something, I'll call you?"

"Works for me," Dante said, rubbing at his eyelids. "I could sleep for a day."

Kathy snorted at him. "Insomnia-amateur," she teased. "Go home, crash for a few hours. You'll be woken up by a giant bunny hopping soon enough."

"More like insomnia expert," Dante retorted. "I figured out how to tire myself out."

Kathy raised her eyebrows at him. Fighting for hours until you were exhausted and could pass out for a few hours? Did not sound familiar at all. "Next time, you could've just asked. I'd've given you that advice for free."

She wondered if she should mention she wasn't doing that anymore...nah. Probably not now. Dante looked like all he wanted to do was fall over, it would be rude to keep him awake to chat.

"Go sleep," she told him, making shooing motions with her hands. "Unless you feel like getting drafted into four cups of caf and research."

"Research is not really my bag," Dante said.

He tilted his head at the library. "... But maybe I'll be back later with some pizza."

"That'd be cool if you did," Kathy said, reaching for her wallet. "If you hang on, I can throw you some money to cover it."

Someone had missed the news about him being rich. And was more than willing to pay for the privilege of not having to go back outside. The thought of fighting these critters made her feel...unsettled.

"Nah, I don't need anything," Dante said, waving her wallet off. "I'm good for it."

Rhys was back in the library to help with the terrifying invasion.

It was possible that he'd Judy camped out here rather than shown up to help out. So, emerging from his little hovel, he somehow managed to find a random piece of paper with a map on it with: STEAM ROOM, SUNSHINE, PRESERVE MANAGEMENT

All marked out.

"Anyone want this thing?"

Kathy just raised an eyebrow at him, slowly tucking her wallet away. Wasn't this the guy that protested letting her have a single slice of pizza when he'd order them.

He must have been tired. "Okay then," she said. "Make sure at least one has veggies on it? But I won't make you suffer the indignity of ordering olives."

Dante noticed the look on her face and let out a wry huff. "I got money now," he said, by ways of explanation. "But fine, you get your veggie pizza. Just get our asses out of here stat."

Kathy snorted and resumed flipping through the book she was reading. "Finally, you admit that I'm--hello." Banter forgotten, she picked up a torn scrap of paper that had fallen out of the book. "What's this?"

"Can I see that?" Kathy asked, making her way over to Rhys. "Is it a chunk of a map, too?"

"Nope," said Kuzco, who may have mistaken the library for a place that had food.

"... A piece of paper?" Dante offered.

"I didn't eat them!" Kuzco said defensively.

You know, just in case anyone had thought that he might've.

"Looks like it," Rhys said, looking at it more closely. "I think I slept on it."

"Oh my god, did you follow me here?" You stalker llama.
