Discovering Earth | Friday, Period 2
"You know," Kanan mused, scratching his beard as the class gathered at the Causeway to catch their next portal, "I have to admit I was wondering how long it would take for Doctor Lecter to arrange for us to do something food-related this semester. He held out impressively long. I'm proud of you, Doctor."
Hannibal smiled. "Well, I've had entire classes on nothing but our food; I thought we might enjoy some of the rest of Earth's attractions. However," he said to the class, "an artisan cheese festival was too good to pass up, if only as an example of the many varied climates, animals, and cultures," because who could pass up that pun? "of Earth."
Kanan groaned. He had to. He certainly could have resisted that pun, thank you, Hannibal.
"What we're going to see today is pretty self-explanatory," he said, rolling his eyes skyward. "Cheese. We're going to see cheese. And probably eat cheese, and, I don't know, what else do you do with cheese, anyway?"
"You drink wine. Also of a wide variety of origins, grapes, and processes," Hannibal supplied.
The portal arrived, and he waved them through. "So, shall we experience some more of Earth's variety?"
"It's variety of cheese," Kanan added helpfully, shaking his head before stepping through. And blinking. And tilting his head a little. "Huh."
They came through the portal into a field, at the top of a tall, steep hill. There was cheese, yes, but perhaps not quite so much or quite so fancy as they had been anticipating.
Hannibal frowned. "This is not California." After a moment of hearing the accents, he added, "this is England." He'd be having words with Portalocity; apparently Jono's luck was rubbing off.
"Oookay," Kanan replied, squinting a little and walking up to one of the locals to ask if they knew what was going on here. A minute later he came back to report to the class, a bemused look on his face. "So, there's a cheese wheel. They're going to roll it down that hill, there. And then they're going to chase it. Catch the cheese, keep the cheese, I guess."
Hannibal looked at Kanan, then at the locals, then at the hill. He buttoned his coat. "I'll be waiting up here."
Plotting revenge on Portalocity.
Kanan, meanwhile, just grinned as he walked over to the top of the hill.
What? This was far more exciting than some taste-testing festival.
