Peridot didn't trust the library today.
Which was fine. The library didn't trust her, either.
Why? No particular reason. She was just standing on a chair behind the circulation desk, squinting suspiciously at the books, and the books were just sitting on the shelves, squinting back.
Or being books. Doing nothing at all out of the ordinary whatsoever.
Which around here was as good a cause for paranoia as any.
The library is open, the books are books, and the Gem is extra squinty today.
