The library was quiet. Too quiet.

But not the sound being completely muffled way.

Just in the waiting for the other shoe to drop way.

Look, it wasn't paranoia when they'd really been out to get you.

Who wishes she'd brought her lightsabers to work today.

Rhys took a moment to carefully peek into the library for any ~~monsters~~ basic farmland animals. Only then did he carefully make his way in.

"...it's really quiet in here."

Something was going to try to kill him, wasn't it?

Luckily thanks to picking up on him with the Force and her montrals that something wasn't going to be an on-edge and surprised Ahsoka.

"I don't trust it."

Ahsoka, that was just the untreated PTSD talking.

Oh, Ahsoka. Just repress all that trauma until it bursts out in some sort of sand people massacre. That was how things worked.

"Are you sure nothing's in the stacks?"

Yes, enable the paranoia with your own, Rhys.

Honestly, given how much time she'd spent around Ankin and Obi-Wan, it was a minor miracle Ahsoka had any kind of emotional health at all.

"...well I was."

Yeah, they were basically repression Olympic gold medalists. It could be... worse? Somehow?

Rhys shuffled closer to her because he was well aware who was going to beat up whatever was out there. "What if it's invisible. Like a stalker."

He had a bunch of murderous animals from Pandora to be paranoid about, okay?

It could always be worse where feelings and Skywalker-adjacent people were involved.

"I'd be able to hear it." Even if she didn't have the Force to help things out. Score one for sensitive Togruta hearing?

Oh great, more magic alien powers.

"Well?" Rhys prompted after enduring the silence for three whole seconds.

It was biology, not magic.

"It just sounds like a normal library."

Which was the problem, really. Since it manifestly wasn't one.

"Is that normal?" His experience here involved her or researching to not die in some hellish non-2K based video game world.

"I got hired on the basis of having thumbs."

So, no, then.

At that, Rhys gave her a look that was somewhere between impressed and terrified. "Wow."

She said on the basis of having them, not murdering people with them.

Though let's be real, she probably could.

"It made more sense the first time." Since nearly everyone else had been ponies.

"I'm sure it did." He was now concerned he was going to lose a thumb or two here. At least one of which could be replaced easily?

He was becoming Skywalker-adjacent, (more) limb-loss was an ever growing danger.

"They got them back."

That probably didn't help Rhys much, Ahsoka.

Now someone needed to cut off his robotic hand so he could be more annoyed than horrified. Those cost money, people!

"How is that better?"

Also picturing a bucket of severed thumbs now.

"...they weren't ponies any more?"

That counted as better, right?

"Wait, ponies?"

"People were ponies. Like Kuzco."

Only not llamas.

"That sounds awful," Rhys settled on after some more traumatic realization that he was instrumental in Buttstallion's death.

...Ahsoka's narrative wasn't going to touch that one.

"It was a whole thing."

She was a unicorn made of diamonds. Who pooped guns.

This was a real thing.

"Does it happen a lot?" Because he would turn into an awful giraffe instead, let's be real here.

That is indeed...a thing.

"Only the once." That she knew of. "That I know of."

Borderlands was a very special series.

"...maybe Kuzco is the only one who got it this time?"

There's nothing actually wrong the the library ~~than usual~~.
