Creative Cooking with a Focus on Pudding- Third Period

The classroom was positively fruity today. No, we aren’t making disparaging remarks about your decorating tastes. The workstations, counters, cabinets and cupboards were all filled with fruit. Wonka had a jaunty sprig of bananas and pineapples crammed into his hatband. And the teacher could barely wait for the class bell to ring, springing to the board and launching into his lecture the moment the tone sounded.

“No sitting around dozing off this week! No wicked for the rest! Wait…”

“To begin! Sweets can be lovely for any of a number of different factors: texture, appearance, or sheer lovely creativity! But the most commonly important one is flavour. If your sweets don’t taste good, then there’s very little hope for them. Luckily for you, there is no end to the world of flavours available in just this one simple category!”

He gestured to the abundance of fruit surrounding the class.

“For today’s lesson, I want you to find one flavour combination which is lovely, and one which you feel to be absolutely horrid. Take down some notes, think about why something does or does not work. Perhaps confer with your classmates,” he shrugs for a dismissive moment, “if you prefer collaboration.” He brightens up a bit, “Or test on them! Yes, let’s do that instead! Find a partner and feed them either your lovely or horrid combination. Do not tell them which one it is. Each tongue is different. You may be surprised by their reactions.”

Pinkie looked at the fruits thoughtfully, from multiple angles, all while idly munching on an apple.

Hang on. . . .

She looked at her half-eaten apple and let out a gleeful little squeak.

Everything went well with apples.

Ada was totally trying bites of all the things the Millers had never had the money to buy in bulk. Mangoes, blackcurrants, lychee, sand pears, goji berries, pomegranates... anything new, she had to try. And most of it was new.

And delicious.

Dante could follow instructions.

Or he could dig into the strawberries and pretend like he was working.

Guess which one he went for.

Pinkie had -- rather more than two combinations ready. She looked around the classroom for a hapless sap test subject tasting partner.

Did someone say hapless sap tasting partner? Kuzco had half-assed half-llamaed? done his best with the assignment as well, picking fruits that looked a little the stuff his chefs had fed him.

"So, fellow student, what'd you do?"

"Hiya!" Pinkie greeted. "I used apples. I've got some apple cranberry and apple grape and apple kumquat and apple weird-spiky-thing-I've-never-seen-before! Which one do you want to try first?"

[identity profile] notouchykuzco.livejournal.com 2017-01-13 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"The one that doesn't smell like my roommate's socks," Kuzco said, making a face at the last offering. "Ew."
sprinklesgoboom: (ummmm)

[personal profile] sprinklesgoboom 2017-01-13 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okidokiloki!" Pinkie agreed, then looked at her mixes and frowned. She leaned sideways, eyes still on her mixes, to whisper to Kuzco: "I don't know what your roommate's socks smell like."

I mean, who even knew how llama noses worked?

[identity profile] notouchykuzco.livejournal.com 2017-01-13 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, Kuzco certainly couldn't explain it. He was still trying to pretend he wasn't really a llama.

"Kinda like that one," Kuzco said, pointing to the durian thing.
sprinklesgoboom: (ooooooo)

[personal profile] sprinklesgoboom 2017-01-13 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's be real, all of Pinkie's mixes now smelled like durian. There was a reason it was banned from public transportation in several places in Southeast Asia.

"Really?" She took a big whiff of the mix. "Your roommate's socks smell really good."

[identity profile] notouchykuzco.livejournal.com 2017-01-13 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Then you can live with him," Kuzco said immediately. "We'll switch. Where's yours?"

"Oh, I don't have a roommate," Pinkie said, totally casual. "I guess maybe because I transferred in in the middle of the year?" She shrugged and drank her apple-durian mix down like a shot.

[identity profile] notouchykuzco.livejournal.com 2017-01-13 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"You don't have a roommate?!!! I want to not have a roommate!!"

Kuzco was easily derailed from class assignments.

"Have you tried asking not to have a roommate?" Pinkie suggested.

[identity profile] notouchykuzco.livejournal.com 2017-01-15 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"I did and the moose laughed at me," Kuzco sulked.

[personal profile] sprinklesgoboom 2017-01-15 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's a moose?!" Pinkie shrieked.

This was very exciting news!

Ada'd whipped up a sand pear/cranberry/blackcurrent, and peach/mango/strawberry. She knew which she liked better, but they were both interesting. It would just depend if you liked tart or sweet.
