Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day

Thankfully, the weather on the island today was fairly nice for the tail end of December, but there was still a medium-sized bonfire going in the middle of the lawn, partly due to tradition and partly due to the potential for shirtlessness (which, Zoe supposed, was also tradition.)

The usual tables were set up with warm foods, nametags, and lists for the new and old folks to find each other. Once everything was set up, it was time to celebrate a new year and the start of a new semester!

[OCD is up! I'm consolidating this down to one post, so bring all your new and old folks over here! Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"That just means it'll be a fun surprise!" You couldn't keep a good Pinkie -- or her hair -- down. "It's very nice to meet you Mr. Willy Wonka! That class sounds super duper fantastic! I hope the school signed me up for it. Or that I can sign me up for it. I really don't know how all this works."

"It's all new to me as well, but I'm sure we'll muddle through. And if you haven't been signed up for my class, come along anyway! I don't imagine that it would cause any issues."

He didn't stop once to think of the paperwork. Because rules are only super-important if they don't happen to inconvenience him in any way.

That sounded like a reasonable philosophy to Pinkie Pie. "I totally will, thanks! Oh gosh, I'm actually hoping my friends don't pull me back home too quickly. I'd love to learn all about how you decorated this cake at least!"

"I can't take all the credit. I popped back home to borrow the kitchen and a hand or six from some friends." He smiled. "The best baking trick is a friend to help you realize what you visualize."

Says the man who locked himself away for twenty years without speaking to a single soul who wasn't on his payroll. He is absolutely qualified to speak on the subject of friendship.

"Omigosh it so is!" Wonka, she'd been here all of maybe half an hour and you were already her favorite teacher of all time. "Also having a party cannon that's been frosting rated. Those help, too."

"Do you frost by cannon, then? I could never quite get the hang of using ours for more than testing the exploding candy. Difficult to get precision."

It was somewhat hard to tell if Wonka's candy cannons were canon for this canon, whether he can use any, or none.

"Sometimes! For the really big cakes. My cannons aren't really built for frosting precision." Pinkie shrugged a little helplessly. Frosting ballistics were hard. What was a fifteen year old to do? "You have exploding candy? I can make sprinkles explode! But only just recently, so I'm not super good at controlling it yet." She smiled sheepishly. "I'm not allowed to carry sprinkles to school anymore."

"Then we'll need to get you your learner's permit. We can't have a natural talent go to waste like that." He rubbed his chin. "Hold up a moment. You've only just arrived here. Fandom hasn't banned your sprinkles yet, have they?"

Pinkie looked thoughtful right back at him. "You know, I guess not. They . . . can sometimes demolish a whole dock that the school's been teamworking on for the better part of a week, thus ruining the whole effort and making all the students go home feeling a let down and disappointed, though."

That was an important thing to avoid.

"Ah, awkward teenage years. Growth spurts, confusing social cues, and the inevitable catastrophic carpentry mishaps." He gave an understanding nod.

"Yes!" Pinkie really wanted to give you a hug, Wonka. "Omigosh, teachers almost never get that!"

If Wonka detected an incoming hug attack, he was ready to sidestep it. Personal space was the same to him as rules. His own was very important.

"I've never gotten along well with teachers. Or schools. This one seems a good deal better than most, though. I'm certain that the squirrels wouldn't work here if it weren't a lovely place."

"There are squirrels working here?!"

Fluttershy was going to die when she heard about that.

He lowered his voice. "Yes, but several of them seem to be spies. They may even be listening right now."

Pinkie leaned in and looked around suspiciously. "Got it!" she whispered extremely loudly. "Their secret is safe with me!"

Well, he didn't know what he'd expected. Nobody knew how to keep a secret anymore. He rubbed his ear in an effort to soothe his now-throbbing eardrum. He had to remind himself that he was here with the intention of spreading his tricks of the trade. And squirrel spies were at least better than rotten, candy-stealing competitors.
