Shop, Tuesday, period 3

The shop was the familiar old "tables in a junkyard" set-up today. Eliot had just about given up on getting the place to look like anything else.

"Right," he said when class was due to start. "Only two classes left in the semester, and next week I want to open the place up so you all can show off your projects. So today is Open Shop. The tools and materials are all at your disposal. You can work on finishing up a project from earlier in the year, or you can start something new, it's up to you. Got anything you've been burning to try out, let me know, and we'll see about getting you the supplies you need. Otherwise . . . have a ball."

Shocking no one, Ada was making a little ferris wheel.

Well, 'little' in that it was smaller than a real one, but was still a good five feet in diameter. If the page of scribbled notes next to her was any indication, it would hopefully move, light up, and hopefully -- if she found the bits -- play music. There had to be a music box tossed in a junk pile somewhere, right?

"There's enough littles around here, I figured there might be a daycare or something that would want it, so th' dolls could have a party," Ada said with a shrug. "Though if'n th' squirrels wanna buy it off me, pretty sure we could come to an arrangement."

Ringo had seen some videos of a home-made rail gun over the weekend, and that sounded like a cool thing to try herself. So she'd spent some time digging through old electronic bits looking for capacitors. Now she was hooking them all up on a piece of scrap wood she'd found lying around and preparing dragging a truck battery she'd found over to actually charge them.

This was going to be fun.
