Today Steve was in front of the class wearing a baseball cap with a huge blue B on it, and a jersey that scrawled "Brooklyn" across his chest in script. "So, last night was the first game that the Chicago Cubs have played in the World Series since 1945." He smiled a little wryly. "Trust me when I say it's been a while since 1945."

And Tony was wearing a hat with an N and a Y stacked on top of each other because he was sticking with New York pride here, okay? "The last time they won was back in 1908. Which not even our resident old man was old enough to have witnessed."

Deal with it, Steve and Chicago.

Steve grinned sheepishly. "True enough. Other things that didn't exist in 1908: integrated baseball teams. Bras. Zippers. Sliced bread."

Tony gave a duly impressed look for all those things. How did people survive without them? "This'll be another easy day if you're a baseball fan. If not... there's still the wonder of research to help you. In honor of the Chicago Cubs, we'll be discussing who is the worst baseball team of all time."

"It's up to you to decide how you measure worst," Steve said. "Losses over the years? Scandals? Cheating, drug use, inappropriate mascot choices? Obnoxiousness of their fans? Their general...Yankee-ness?"

Sorry not sorry, Tony.

"Aren't the Dodgers in California?" Tony asked archly. Because bring it, Brooklyn. Bring it.

"They are," Steve grumbled. He secretly thought his patriotic puppy eyes could have stopped that from happening if he'd been awake for it. "Where they made it to division championships this year, unlike certain other teams who remain nameless but rhyme with Spankies."

Tony rolled his eyes. "Ignore Captain Rogers' bad taste and decide for yourselves, class."

Tony was just, you know, rooting for the superior team who didn't leave for California ages ago.

And enjoying his coffee. Smugly.

"They'll walk it off," Steve was saying stoutly, drinking his own cup of coffee.

"From California?" Tony, don't engage this. This way lay madness.

"They might," Steve said. "They sent me the vintage hat, after all."

"Did you give them those puppy eyes?" That Tony had never been susceptible to. Never.

"Of course not," Steve said, looking affronted.

"Really." Tony didn't buy that in the slightest. Steve was basically an overly muscular, puppy filled with equal parts rage and sadness.

"I sent them a letter expressing disappointment at their relocation," Steve said. "They couldn't see my face."

"A strongly worded letter from Captain America," Tony replied, taking another sip of coffee to keep from snickering.

Steve nodded. "I used a stamp and an envelope and everything."

"Have you heard about email?" Tony asked because he couldn't help himself. "It's the latest thing."

Steve rolled his eyes. "Yes, I've heard of email. This seemed to be something that should be written down properly."

Tony nodded along, but looked like he was trying his best to not laugh. "You guilt tripped the Dodgers."

"...I can see how it can look like that, yeah," Steve said, going red.

Yeah, Tony couldn't really keep from laughing anymore. "You guilt tripped a professional sports team. That is amazing."

"They're not packing up and heading back to Brooklyn, so it didn't work," Steve said.

"Maybe if you keep at it?" Tony, no.

Steve made a face. "I'm not going to annoy them."

Tony shook his head, going up on his toes--just a little, shut up--to throw an arm over Steve's shoulders. "Of course not. Maybe next season you should check out their stadium."

"Do I have to?" Steve said plaintively. "It won't be the same."

"You are the weirdest mix old and young, you know," Tony informed him.

Steve blushed. "Sorry."

"It's your charm," Tony assured him.

"Thanks?" Steve said, sounding a little uncertain.
