Today Steve was in front of the class wearing a baseball cap with a huge blue B on it, and a jersey that scrawled "Brooklyn" across his chest in script. "So, last night was the first game that the Chicago Cubs have played in the World Series since 1945." He smiled a little wryly. "Trust me when I say it's been a while since 1945."

And Tony was wearing a hat with an N and a Y stacked on top of each other because he was sticking with New York pride here, okay? "The last time they won was back in 1908. Which not even our resident old man was old enough to have witnessed."

Deal with it, Steve and Chicago.

Steve grinned sheepishly. "True enough. Other things that didn't exist in 1908: integrated baseball teams. Bras. Zippers. Sliced bread."

Tony gave a duly impressed look for all those things. How did people survive without them? "This'll be another easy day if you're a baseball fan. If not... there's still the wonder of research to help you. In honor of the Chicago Cubs, we'll be discussing who is the worst baseball team of all time."

"It's up to you to decide how you measure worst," Steve said. "Losses over the years? Scandals? Cheating, drug use, inappropriate mascot choices? Obnoxiousness of their fans? Their general...Yankee-ness?"

Sorry not sorry, Tony.

"Aren't the Dodgers in California?" Tony asked archly. Because bring it, Brooklyn. Bring it.

"They are," Steve grumbled. He secretly thought his patriotic puppy eyes could have stopped that from happening if he'd been awake for it. "Where they made it to division championships this year, unlike certain other teams who remain nameless but rhyme with Spankies."

Tony rolled his eyes. "Ignore Captain Rogers' bad taste and decide for yourselves, class."

Steve blushed, because of course he did. "Do you have anything going on Monday night?" he blurted.

Wow, that sounded weirdly datelike.

It sort of did! Enough that Tony blinked before rallying with a smile.

"Eating candy and wondering if there will be trick or treaters. Maybe check on the newest wedding," he said dryly. How many times can two people try before giving up?

Steve chuckled slightly. "My Tony is having some kind of big party at his place and probably only invited me to be polite, but I should make an appearance. I was thinking of maybe heading to Brooklyn after and seeing if I can spot any little Caps, if you wanted to come and give me an excuse to bail out early?"

He grinned. "Or you could go dressed as Tony and completely freak him out."

Well, that made him laugh. "Sure. Gets me out of having to buy another wedding gift."

And better company.

"Do you really have to keep buying a new one for each event?" Steve said, making a face. "That seems...greedy of them."

"I'd just elope at this point if I were them," Tony replied, making a face.

Steve nodded. "Or take it for some kind of sign that the wedding is a bad idea."

Tony nodded in agreement. "I think Sue and Reed's wedding was attacked by mole people. She was not happy." Yeah. Mole people. Oh, classic Marvel.

"...mole people," Steve repeated dryly.

"From the center of the earth." A beat. "Sometimes I feel normal around Reed and Sue."

"I can see that," Steve said. "Did they still get married?"

"After Sue beat the crap out of them, yes," Tony replied, sounding like he was in awe of her. "I would have proposed after that, so it was for the best."

Steve laughed. "Like a girl who can take care of herself, huh?"

"Told you," Tony replied with a grin. "Smart and tough. Just my type."

Steve grinned back. "Mine too."

"You," Tony said, pointing at him. "Are never allowed to meet Sue. Or Carol."

Jan had already been pulled in by his charm.

Steve laughed. "Are they brunettes, too?"

"Blonde, both of them." Just, you know, don't think too hard into that.

Steve arched up his eyebrows. "So you have a type, too."

"Maybe it's the fact that they're unattainable," Tony joked despite kind of hitting it right on the head. Which needed to be ignored at all cost. "So, will I need a costume for this party?"

"Oh, absolutely," Steve said.

Tony hummed, giving it some thought. "I'll see if Jan has any last minute ideas for me."

Jan had a million ideas and would probably offer to make the costume.

As long as it wasn't cardboard box Iron Man.

"I'm sure she'll love the challenge," Steve said.

Excuse you, cardboard Iron Man was the best costume ever. Mr. Werewolf.

"Don't be surprised if she texts you to try making one for you." Jan, no.

Nothing beat penguin Sam. Everyone just stopped trying.

"I'm open to suggestions," Steve said with a grin.
